The lab featured in this story invented a therapeutic device that has seen great success in improving the symptoms of people with MS, stroke, or other neurological impairments. After publication of this piece, the lab saw a big increase in volunteers! As someone with my own neurological impairments, writing this felt very personal and important.

I wrote this piece on a trip I had won to the Galápagos Islands. In the 90s, the Ecuadorian government came up with a unique way to rid the islands of their invasive goat population. I decided to tell the story from the perspectives of an island biologist and a tour guide who was raised there.

In addition to using AI tools in my work at Genentech, I'm also privileged to write about it for change management purposes. This story introduces Genentech scientists to the opportunities that AI/ML provide in making their work more efficient, framed through the lens of our antibody research department.

This story is a proud achievement for me. When it was assigned my way, I had struggled to understand the science behind it - let alone interview the researcher. I therefore developed my own feature story workflow that maximized comfort and efficiency for both myself and the interviewee. The result was a first draft that looked remarkably similar the final draft seen here!
