With snails we will learn how to store, optimizing space.
How does nature optimize space?
How does nature pack a lot into little space? We'll have to ask Snail!
Activity outside: "Let's go looking for the snail".
If there is no possibility to go looking for the snail: show pictures or videos with snails.
Why is the snail shaped like a spiral?
Look at different objects, such as the following, and try to find the similarity between these objects and snails.
Toilet paper roll
Measuring tape
Roll of sewing thread;
Roll of rag.
Several images that can be explored by the teacher as a source of information:
Observing nature:
Snail
Elephant
Whelk
Looking at different everyday materials:
Materials required:
Cotton yarn
What to do:
Before the activity begins unwind a roll of yarn (without the child seeing it).
Ask the child how we can store all that yarn in the smallest space possible.
Show the difference in the volume occupied by the wire before and after winding.
