What is the Peralta Cup?
In 2004, the Peralta Cup began its very own pinewood derby race. The Peralta Cup is an annual premier pinewood derby race open to all scouts, siblings, and parents. What makes this event special is packs grow in their bond competing as a team (as opposed to against each other at the pack level pinewood derbies) and, often, they make new friends with scouts from other packs.
Why compete?
The Peralta Cup is about community:
Most packs do not participate in Cub Jamborees or Camporees. This is a community day to celebrate ALL packs in the district. This is about forming new friendships and building relationships with other packs and communities. This is the heart of scouting.
Packs compete against each other:
There are "team" trophies for how well each pack performs, but you must have at least four members present from the pack in order to compete.
There are just so so many trophies to be won:
There are a lot more trophies available for scouts to win as individuals and as a team at the Peralta Cup. These trophies are awarded that day. The scouts go home with them.
There are more race classes. Parents are *strongly* encouraged to compete as well. The classes include:
* Scout Class
* Youth Class (non-scout)
* Vintage Scout Class
* Outlaw
* Extreme Outlaw
This is a fundraiser.
All proceeds help us host this event without requiring financial support from the district. We are self sustained. Any additional money raised is given directly to the Alameda Area District, GGAC.
