During my time at Florida International University as a Global Learning Medallion student, I had the opportunity to take some really challenging and informative courses. Most of them were Spanish courses, but what I loved about them was the variety of different styles of assignments that we had to complete. From essays to presentations and everything in between, every assignment allowed me to express my understanding of the course's concepts, theories, and content in a unique and engaging way.
I developed critical thinking skills by analyzing various topics such as multiculturalism, global challenges, science and ethics, immigration, gender issues, and Latino communities in the U.S. Prior to taking this class, I had informally learned Spanish with no educational training. This class pushed me out of my comfort zone and showed me what I am capable of.
I have gained the knowledge and skills necessary to read and write in Spanish with a professional level of proficiency, making use of proper grammar and vocabulary. By completing various writing assignments and reading comprehension exercises, I have honed my ability to understand complex texts in Spanish and to express my ideas fluently and coherently in writing.
I have gained the fundamental knowledge and skills required to proficiently translate medical documents, business letters, and various coursework from Spanish to English and vice versa. The course has provided me with an in-depth understanding of the grammatical structures, vocabulary, and idiomatic expressions in both languages, enabling me to accurately convey the intended message of the source text.
I learned a plethora of valuable skills that are essential for constructing a successful business in Latin America. One of the most important things I learned was how to create effective and persuasive advertisements that capture the attention of potential customers. Additionally, I learned how to form strategic partnerships with other businesses, which can be hugely beneficial for expanding reach and driving growth. Finally, I also gained valuable insights into how to communicate effectively with potential customers, both in writing and verbally, which is critical for building strong relationships and ultimately closing deals.
During all these gatherings, I had the opportunity to meet with agents and analysts from their respective agencies. It was an enlightening experience as I learned more about what their agencies stand for, the objectives they aim to achieve, and the different responsibilities that come with their jobs.
