Every Day!
9th grade = one weekly 20-minute individual lesson
10-12th grade = optional one weekly 20-minute lesson
High school orchestra rehearses daily in the auditorium. Ninth grade lessons are required, to help with the transition to more difficult large group music. Lessons for tenth through twelfth grades are optional.
High school members participate in five concerts through out the year (usually in October, December, March, April, and May). In addition to concerts, the large group also participates in the Jefferson Orchestra Invitational in Cedar Rapids in April. This festival ended in Spring 2020.
Students have the option of participating in state solo and ensemble contest in March, as well as auditioning for the All-State Orchestra.
The high school orchestra performs at Pella's annual Tulip Time festival in May on both Thursday and Friday, dressed in their Dutch costumes. The "Strolling Strings" memorize a number of pieces and play at three different locations.
Lastly, the high school orchestra has a trip during part of spring break every three years. The next trip year is 2023. If you would like more information about the trip, please click here.
