THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS
FOR THE SIMONDS FAMILY
11/22/2020
Craig and Barb's daughter Jennifer gave birth to a healthy daughter (Haylie) this past year.
Unfortunately, since then Jennifer has been suffering from a mysterious ailment, including significant weight loss, that doctors have as yet been unable to diagnose.
Barb has been staying with Jennifer and family and they certainly have their hands full.
Please keep the Simonds in your thoughts during this time.
THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS
FOR PHIL MASTIN
11/19/2020
Phil Mastin just underwent shoulder surgery on Tuesday, the 17th. Phil had a torn rotator cuff and bone spurs. He will be in a sling for 5-6 weeks and - most importantly - unable to return to golf for about 6 months.
As if COVID wasn't enough this makes at least 6 regular golfers who will not be available to play this winter. But there is still time for you to pick up the game. Grab some clubs, ignore a chilly day or two, and take a stab at it. You don't have to be great. In fact, we prefer it that way.
But in all seriousness keep Phil in mind as he recuperates.
All the best Phil.
THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS
FOR SUE FASOLI
11/5/2020
The Fasoli's are doing OK, but this past Sunday Art experienced chest pains and went to the hospital. They placed two stents in his heart - one for 80% blockage and the other 95%.
He came home Tuesday and is doing well, having gone for two 1/4 mile walks already and starting PT soon. He and Sue are set on returning to the Pelican in mid December.
So why address our thoughts and prayers to Sue? Anyone who knows Art will understand.
PASSING OF GEORGE EATON
11/1/2020
George Eaton passed away this past week. George and his wife Margaret were regulars at the Pelican until about three years ago. You may remember George as the gentleman who had a heart attack on a local NSB Golf course, only to return to playing a couple of weeks later.
George is also the donor of the silver cup we use to celebrate the Red Team winning the Ryder Cup on an annual basis.
Thoughts and prayers go out to George and his family.

HATS OFF TO OUR
CANADIAN FRIENDS
10/23/2020
The border may be officially closed but that may not be enough to keep all of our Canadian Friends from joining us this year.
In this photo Randy Hooper is shown practicing his wakeboarding skills.

Here's the plan.
On Christmas Eve - when most of the border guards are passed out from an overdose of Molson's - Randy will be paddling across the St. Lawrence towards the waiting Craig Simonds on the U.S. side.
But it won't be as simple as this photo indicates. On the back of his wake board Randy will be balancing his golf bag with Bev zipped neatly inside. Quite the challenge, but if Randy can hit a 7-iron off a palm tree to within 6 feet of the cup he can certainly pull this off.
OK, I made this whole story up (other than that really is Randy wakeboarding).
Truth is unless things change dramatically, Randy - along with the rest of our Canadian regulars - will not be joining us this year. That means no David and Bonnie, no Jim and Pat Collard, and no Gary and Sally to serve us up fresh coffee and donuts.
You - along with the other Canadians that I have left off this list - will be sorely missed.
But as long as we are talking about Canada let me take this opportunity to pass along a tidbit about Canadian culture that Randy shared with me.
Why do Canadians prefer doggie style?
FIRST ACE FOR PELICAN GOLFER
10/19/2020
Congratulations to Tom Lees who recently holed his first career Hole in One!
Tom was playing from about 170 yards on the #11 hole at his home course in Watertown. Tom was hitting a 7 hybrid - a purchase recommended by Sharon Gilmore, his NSB golf instructor.
As much time as Tom spends with Sharon we should really give credit to her. Tom was merely the puppet with Sharon pulling the strings.
That's just my jealously talking Tom. Well done. You can mark that one off of your bucket list.
October Construction Update
10/3/2020
The vast majority of construction is either complete or nearing completion. The one major exception may be B building on the Point.
Photos below from Alecia provide more detail.
D Building has all the glass in and is awaiting railings and finishing touches.
The two photos above show that most of B Building is under control, just waiting on some window installations, railings and touch up.
The above photos reveal the more extensive damage to B Building Point. This building was the most damaged of any at the Pelican.
And finally this photo (above) from Jean Shaw's vacation in Beirut.
Just remember, these were taken the end of September - still a full three months before the majority of us start rolling in. You are rolling in aren't you? After all, 2020 will behind us and 2021 promises a bright new day!!!
Although I do keep hearing that the movie Mad Max - filmed in 1979 - was based on events occurring in the year 2021.
Which leads me to this photo forwarded from an unknown photographer.
That is the entrance to Breakers on your left. This was not from one of the named storms, but rather a nor'easter that pummeled the coast a few weeks back.
So keep driving those Teslas and remember - if you bag your recyclables before putting them in the dumpster they don't get recycled!! If you bring them down in a bag, please dump them out!
(This message has been approved by Sue Manciu, the recycle Nazi.)
