After 14 years wintering at the Pelican I can honestly say that I have never seen the place rocking like it was Saturday night at the Sock Hop. Bubble gum blowing, hula hooping, karaoke and dancing till the cows come home (that normally happens at 9:00 at the Pelican, but the cows were up late on Saturday).
Check back for more photos and don't miss links to the videos near the bottom of this page.
And thank you to all who made it happen:
Jo Lynne and Mike Flesher
Alice and Phil Mastin
Sue and Jack Manciu
Bev and Randy Hooper
Linda and Stuart Willoughby
Barbara and Craig Simonds
Max Wright for the equipment that allowed us to really rock the house
The folks who helped clean up afterwards and anyone else that I left out.
The cool guys rock the Karaoke. That's Knuckles
from the Pel's Angels on the left, Cool Papa
on the right and Wolf Man Phil - the original Mastin
of Ceremonies - in the center.
Peggy Sue and Wonderland Alice handle the mike like they have
been there before.
Peg Leg Craig and Horn-Dog get ready to take
Sweet Janet for the ride of her life.
On Craig's surfboard that is.
The Pink Ladies devising a plan to hook up with some of the
Pel's Angels gang after the dance.
Contestants for the best costume line up.
These next few speak for themselves.
One of the hot chicks from the Pink Ladies checks out Jimmy the Geek.
The pocket stain is because his pen leaked - it wasn't his fault.
Judy Holt joins Carol Flick, Carol;s daughter Linda,
granddaughters and cousins to belt one out.
Another of the Pink Ladies falls for the
charms of Cool Papa Smurf. It was his
poem on root beer floats* that did the trick.
Watch and listen to the crowd as they dance and sing the night away.
HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
Root Beer Float Evening - Man*
a poem by Cool Papa Smurf
It was one of those Kind of evenings When shuffleboard was heard From open windows And condos had balconies And balconies had these uncomfortable chairs Where voices murmured softly Into velvet humidity It was the most precious of things In the most treasured of times It was a root beer float… Kind of evening
Yeah - that's what it was man.
