ARCHITECT
Phil is an architect who helps clients bring thoughtful, well-crafted spaces to life. His passion for design started young, drawing, painting, and building with Lego.
After graduating from Sylvan Hills High School in Sherwood, Arkansas, Phil attended the University of Arkansas School of Architecture. During that time, he spent a semester studying in Rome and had the chance to travel throughout Europe, including visiting family in the Netherlands.
While in school, he worked with an urban studies and design program, architectural firms, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he spent two summers on a survey crew. After graduating, he stayed on at the University for two years as a Visiting Assistant Professor, while continuing to gain experience working with firms.
Over the years, Phil has worked with several architecture practices in a variety of roles, including project management and production, contributing to a wide range of project types.
Today, Phil leads his own practice, working closely with clients from concept through construction. He is known for clear communication, collaborative design, and creating spaces that are both functional and meaningful.
After graduation from Sylvan Hills High School in Sherwood, Arkansas, he attended the University of Arkansas School of Architecture, where he had the privilege of spending a semester in Rome, Italy. In addition to his studies, he got to travel across Europe, and even visited family while in the Netherlands. Summer jobs during college included working at the Donaghey Project for Urban Studies and Design, part-time for Witsell Evans Rasco Architects, and for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Little Rock District) for two summers on a survey crew. After graduating from the U of A, he was asked to remain at the School of Architecture to teach. He was a Visiting Assistant Professor for two years. During the summer between the two years of teaching, he interned at HightJackson Associates PA. While teaching, he began moonlighting part-time for Marlon Blackwell Architect, and continued for many years until Marlon opened an office on the Fayetteville Square. After being a professor at the University, Phil was asked by Steve Miller to work at his office, Hiegel-Miller Architects. After working there for two years, Mr. Hiegel passed away, and Steve partnered with two architects within the firm, making it MBL Architects, P.A. After nearly twelve years working as a project manager on a wide variety of project types at MBL, Phil moved to AFHJ Architects & Planners. At AFHJ Phil worked as production manager. After leaving AFHJ, Phil has been working as a sole proprietor on various commercial, restaurant, and residential projects.
