INTERACTY
In recent years, the shift toward digital and multimodal literacy has transformed the way students engage with reading and writing tasks. Traditional comprehension exercises and quizzes often fail to capture students’ attention or foster critical thinking, especially among digital natives. Teachers today face the challenge of designing activities that are both pedagogically sound and visually stimulating. Interacty offers a solution to this challenge, allowing educators to create interactive learning materials that blend visual design with cognitive engagement.
Interacty is an online platform that enables teachers to design interactive learning experiences such as quizzes, memory games, interactive images, timelines, and digital worksheets (Interacty, n.d.). The interface is user-friendly and requires no coding knowledge, making it accessible to educators with varying levels of digital competence. Teachers can upload their own content—texts, images, and videos—and embed interactive elements that encourage exploration, self-assessment, and immediate feedback. This aligns with Dudeney and Hockly’s (2007) notion of “learning through discovery”, as learners actively navigate the content rather than passively consuming it.
In the EFL classroom, Interacty can significantly enhance learner motivation and engagement by transforming static reading or writing exercises into dynamic digital experiences. The tool allows for real-time interaction, promoting collaboration and participation. In addition, it facilitates formative assessment, as students receive instant feedback on their performance. When integrated thoughtfully, Interacty supports the augmentation and modification stages of the SAMR-AI model (EdTechFocus, n.d.), as it redefines traditional tasks through multimodal interactivity. However, as UNESCO (2023) notes, teachers must ensure that digital engagement translates into genuine learning, rather than mere gamification.
Example task
Within a unit titled My Dream City, students could be asked to create an interactive city map using Interacty. Each point on the map could include clickable hotspots containing descriptions, images, or audio recordings presenting different aspects of their city (e.g., landmarks, transport, lifestyle). The activity would culminate in a short peer feedback session, where students explore each other’s maps and leave comments. This task integrates creative writing, speaking, and digital literacy while fostering collaboration and intercultural awareness.
In sum, Interacty provides an effective bridge between creativity and pedagogy, allowing learners to interact with content meaningfully. It encourages critical engagement, active learning, and self-expression, while empowering teachers to design more visually appealing and cognitively rich classroom materials.
