The Canadian Collaborative of Anatomy Educators (CCAE) has a main objective of connecting anatomy educators, technicians, administrators and trainees in anatomy across the country. This organization is grounded in four core pillars that collectively maintain and advance excellence in anatomy education nationwide.
These pillars reflect CCAE’s commitment to high‑quality pedagogy, national collaboration, stewardship of anatomical resources, and service to the broader community. Together, they form a unified framework that supports educators, learners, and partners across disciplines.
Pillar of Continuing Education for Exercise and Rehabilitation Specialists
Members of the CCAE are developing continuing education opportunities and the PEAK workshops are the first of this initiative to launch this year.
AIM: Providing high‑quality, applied anatomical and functional training for health and exercise professionals such as physiotherapists, kinesiologists, massage therapists, athletic therapists, personal trainers and fitness instructors.
These offerings are in partnership with major universities across Canada with established anatomy programs, with award-winning educators and highly skilled graduate students who will facilitate the sessions to translate anatomical knowledge into applied practice.

Dr Judi Laprade, BA, BScPT, MSc, PhD
Associate Professor, Teaching Stream Division of Anatomy, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto
Dr Judi Laprade is an anatomy educator, curriculum innovator, and educational leader with over 25 years of experience enhancing student learning through evidence-based and high-impact pedagogy. Her work focuses on making anatomy accessible, engaging, and relevant for diverse learners through gamification, active learning, creative assessments, and the integration of 3D digital technologies. Her current teaching complement includes a full-year course for undergraduate Kinesiology, an intensive dissection and functional anatomy course for Physical Therapy and an Arts & Science upper-level seminar course on Functional Mechanics and Anatomy. In the past, she has served as a course director for Dentistry, contributed as a guest lecturer for Medicine and Biomedical Communication.
Dr Laprade’s current scholarly activity spans the design of novel anatomy learning toolkits, development of digital 3D resources, and research on visuospatial learning, assessment modalities, and gamified education. She routinely mentors undergraduate, graduate, and professional students across engineering, biomedical sciences, and rehabilitation fields
Most recently, she has launched a national initiative the Canadian Collaborative of Anatomy Educators (CCAE) and the Canadian Anatomy Research in Education (CARE) Conference—to advance collaboration and innovation in anatomy education.
