In short, Google 'my maps' (GMM):
has more functionality for drafting maps and for collaborating with others than using walkingmaps.com.au alone; and
GMM can also be used to create and share other types of maps, which can be useful for stewardship and promoting these spaces.
Note that using Google 'my maps' is completely optional when creating your walking map. The resources here are offered as support and to potentially spark your interest. You may like to pick and choose the elements that best fit your ideas and approach, or ignore these options entirely.
Below are some short videos about creating and collaborating on maps made in Google My Maps.
They include:
an introduction to Google My Maps
quick start guide for creating a map
adding elements including tracks (routes), text and photos
using layers to add and organise your map content
other (external) resources and tutorials for Google My Maps
These videos were created by Wodonga Urban Landcare Network.
