Inflation often coexists with —and is the cause of— greater price dispersion. To be persistent, stabilization requires a reversal of these misalignments: there is no sustainable disinflation without an adjustment of relative prices. In this article, we propose a flexible metric to estimate the extent to which the ongoing inflation reduction process achieves this realignment.
