Welcome to the supplemental Online Western Learning site for PATHOL 4014A: PathALS (Pathology of ALS). This course will explore the neurodegenerative disorder ALS, delving into modules of etiology, pathogenesis, signs and symptoms, treatment, and genetics. The aim of this course is to teach non-science students about the specifics of this disease in an engaging and thorough manner.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of upper and lower motor neurons. This degeneration leads to muscle weakness, atrophy, and eventual paralysis.
