The PASS Senior Weekend 2022 theme is "Ang Bagong Yugto" which translates to " A New Chapter" in tagalog (one of the languages from the Philippines). The intention behind this theme is meant to highlight this new chapter that the Senior Weekend (SW) attendees are giong to embark on as they enter college, though not all may be attending UC Berkeley, this weekend hopes to foster a sense of community care and love, that we hope each and every one of the attendees take wherever they end up attending college.
Though these years we spent virtually, we advanced through and adapted to our enviroments, we held Virtual senior weekends to welcome all of the newly admitted Pilipinx/Pilipinx American students here to UC Berkeley's campus.
All aboard! This year’s theme for Senior Weekend 2019 is All Hands on Deck: The Adventure Awaits, focusing on community and finding what keeps us anchored as individuals and as a collective. College is a huge stepping stone in our lives, and as students of color, this milestone is especially more difficult to navigate when our narratives are silenced and we feel like we don’t know how to handle the ropes of higher education. Our destinations may be different, but we have similar journeys, and together, we will take the helm and sail through the tides of college to get to where we want to be. It takes a whole crew to start your college journey and we hope that over these few days, you feel empowered and closer to your roots as you anchor yourself into the community and set sail on your college adventure!
Liwanag refers to light, brightness, and clarity. While UC Berkeley is celebrating its 150 year anniversary with its motto “Fiat Lux” (Let There be Light), we must acknowledge that same history which frequently silences the narratives of students of color - Pilipinx students included. We aim to destigmatize the reputation of UC Berkeley as a difficult school and strive to shine a light on the vast support system that we have built in the face of adversity. We hope that over these few days we can provide guidance and illuminate a way forward for your goals and your educational journey. While life can be darkened with hardships and challenges, our light is our resilience, our optimism, and our community.
The theme for PASS Senior Weekend 2017 is based off of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, where individuals of diverse backgrounds and personalities come together to foster a community with each other. Whether excessively tall like Wilt, incredibly shy like Eduardo, or completely random like Coco, this weekend hopes to foster a tahanan (or home in Filipino) among students and volunteers participating. For four days and three nights, students will realize the unlimited possibilities that higher education has presented to them -- a loving community (like in the Foster’s home), endless creativity (like the colorful imaginary friends), and major self-discovery (like everyone’s pathway in the show). Similar to Bloo and Mac, students can hope to find camaraderie amongst each other that will leave lasting impacts. PASS Senior Weekend 2017 is merely an introduction to the limitless opportunities that students can find in their new home at the Pilipinx community and at Cal.
