Band Day - the one with the singing dog
The Parrsboro Citizens' Choir is a group that meets but twice a month, with occasional 'sectional' practices to fine tune individual parts. But never do we take ourselves so seriously that someone might be excluded. Music is universal and the opportunity to sing with a group is open to all.
Rehearsals are frequently interrupted by laughter, background discussion as members attempt to help each other, or explain just why the director has monkeyed with this particular piece...and hopefully remembers what he has done from one rehearsal to the next.
When Joyce had to leave, and we are sure she did not break her ankle just to avoid us, we were blessed that Jim Scopie agreed to provide us with his amazing talents as an accompanist. Jim taught us all so very much that it was with great regret that health issues with his family compelled him to withdraw.
Fortunately our Music Director of the Band Association, Rob Bentley, offered to step in and provide accompaniment for us. Rob is a professional musician, the only one in the group, with years of experience behind him. We are truly thrilled that Rob has agreed to play for us, giving up his preference for singing in the back row.
Other than Rob, no one is a professional. Our director (he hates that term) has minimal formal musical training, and no formal choral directing tutelage but brings a love of music, choral music and some informal experience in accidental directing but a sense of fun, insisting that we simply do our best, and most of all enjoy what we are doing. And we do have fun. And by chance have come to make some wonderful music on the way.
