PTA in Action

Wild About Reading Contest

In March, 19 classrooms participated in the PTA's Wild About Reading contest! Classes participated in everything from reading outside to trying new genres, and two classes even started reading buddies for the first time. Classrooms that earned the most points for completing contest activities received books and other items through the Scholastic Book Fair. The contest was so well received, this may become a new Parklawn tradition!

Educator Mini-Grants

The PTA awarded several mini-grants to teachers in spring 2022 to purchase items such as books and magazine subscriptions, classroom supplies, a speaker to use in fitness activities, and supplies for Parklawn’s gardening beds.

Moe's Southwest Grill Fundraiser

Many thanks to everyone who participated in the Moe's Southwest Grill fundraiser on Tuesday, October 26! The money raised will be put toward PTA activities, such as student enrichment and staff appreciation activities!

Back to School Activities: Family Reunion and School Supply Kits

The Parklawn PTA was excited to support the Kona Ice Truck at the Parklawn Family Reunion picnic in September 2021. We were also pleased to organize school supply kits for families to order to simplify back-to-school shopping and ensure that students had all the supplies they would need to start the school year.

Virtual Bingo

The PTA held a virtual Bingo event for students on March 1, 2020. Many students attended and had fun playing several rounds. Thanks to all those who attended and helped to organize this event!

Panther Pride Art Kits & Virtual Gallery

Parklawn PTA was able to distribute art kits to students in fall 2020 and invited students to use the supplies to make a craft that showed their Parklawn Pride. We were excited to receive pictures of some of the crafts-- check out our virtual gallery to see some of the students' creations!

Staff Appreciation Events

Parklawn PTA was excited to offer these activities to show our appreciation for all school teachers, staff, and administrators during the busy and demanding 2020-2021 school year!

Staff Breakfast

The PTA provided breakfast, catered by Panera Bread, for Parklawn staff on March 12, 2021. We appreciate all that Parklawn teachers and staff have done to prepare to welcome students back to the classroom and adapt to concurrent teaching!

Treats with Kona Ice

The PTA was excited to bring Kona Ice to the school for treats on October 30, 2020 to celebrate the end of the first marking period. Even though there were several rainy days that week, the weather held that Friday afternoon and many staff members stopped by for a tasty treat.

Yoga Classes

Parklawn staff were able to take a free yoga class (on Zoom) with a local yoga teacher on the second Monday of each month. We hope this is an opportunity for staff to relax and recenter in the midst of a busy and demanding school year. Thank you for all you are doing to keep our students engaged and safe!

National PTA Grant to Support Virtual Learning

In May 2020, Parklawn Elementary PTA was awarded a grant from the National PTA, sponsored by TikTok, to support students' virtual learning. The PTA worked with school administrators to decide what types of resources would best meet the needs of our students.

Panther Pride Art Kits: Each student will have the opportunity to pick up an art kit to make a craft that reflects their Panther Pride. Kits include supplies such as beads, pom poms, modeling clay, and glue. Students can use these items, and any other supplies from home, to make their Panther Pride craft!

Music Resources: New digital music resources will be available to every student at school. Our music teachers will use this program to help with distance learning instruction. In addition, we purchased a new recorder for each third grade student.

Diversity Books: Finally, PTA worked with local organization R.E.A.D. and school administrators to purchase books about diversity and featuring diverse characters. Each classroom will receive a bundle of books, and the school library will receive numerous books to add to their collection. These books will help all current and future students learn about diverse children's experiences.
