Capstone Portfolio Presentations

Poster Board

Much like a Science Fair Homeland Security Science students create a poster board to illustrate and summarize the findings of their Capstone Research Brief. At the center is the Capstone Portfolio with a collection of certifications, learning experiences, and materials needed to interview or apply for Post-Secondary Education.

Cartographic Brief

Students in the GIS class have a similar Capstone Portfolio but instead of a Poster Board will create a digital presentation on a Homeland Security Topic exploring Geographic Questions and illustrating their conclusions using and ESRI Story Map.

Presentations

Students are evaluated not only on the completeness of their projects but their ability to explain, contextualize, and respond to questions. This process builds important skill for College and Career Readiness and proide an authentic measurement of what a student has learned in a way that a Standardized Test never could.

Judges are volunteers from our partner organizations. Networking today's professionals with tomorrow's prospects is a key attribute of Career and Technical Education in the Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Program at Parkdale High School.
