Thrust Roller Bearing
A bearing is a precision-made machine element that minimizes the friction between moving parts and restricts its relative motion to only the desired motion. Depending on its design it may offer free linear movement or free rotating movement. In addition, it may control the normal vectors of loads and prevent the motion. In simple terms, a bearing is designed to allow one part of the machine to bear or support another part.
Motions Permitted By Bearings:
Here are the common motions which the bearings permit:
Bearings are divided into various types depending on:
Here are some common types of bearings:
Rotary Bearings: These bearings consist of rotating components like shafts or axles within the devices. Rotary bearings can transfer radial and axial loads from the load source to the structure supporting it.
Plain bearing: Plain bearing is the most common type of bearing and consists of a shaft that rotates in a hole. It uses surfaces in rubbing contact. Often, lubrication like oil is used to reduce friction. This type of bearing may or may not be a discrete application. It can be just a bearing surface of a hole with a shaft or a planar surface that bears another one or it may be fused to the substrate or can be in the separate sleeve. Hence, they are very popular and widely used.
With lubricants plain bearings works accurately for a longer duration and offers frictionless movement at minimal cost. However, with the advancement of technology, applications and devices need more suitable and precise bearings which can improve accuracy, efficiency, service intervals, speed of operation, etc.
Rolling-Element Bearing: In these bearings, the rolling elements are placed between the stationary and turning races to prevent sliding friction. Rolling-element bearings are of 2 types:
Fluid Bearing: It is a non contact type of bearing. Fluid bearing supports the load with the help of a gas or liquid.
Magnetic Bearing: It supports the load by a magnetic field.
Flexure Bearing: It uses a load element which bends and supports the motion.
Thus, a huge variety of bearings are available in the market which can be used as per the need of the device or application. Use the right type of bearing to obtain maximum efficiency, durability and performance. In the modern world, thrust roller bearing is in great demand. This type rotary bearing is used in various applications including the automobiles. According to the need of application, double row taper roller bearing or taper lock bearing is commonly used.
