Empirical Social Science
For early career researchers
PAPERSS (Pre- and Post-doctoral Empirical Research in Social Sciences) was founded in 2024 by PhD students at the University Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). The seminar series aims to provide a platform for PhD students and early scholars to present their research and engage in academic discussions.
This seminar series conceives social science research as broadly as you can imagine, with a particular focus on the disciplines of Political Science and Sociology, which dominate our department. While keeping a particular focus on quantitative research, qualitative research is also appreciated.
These seminars are open and welcoming to the international academic community, although we particularly encourage Spain-related early career scholars to apply. We give priority to PhD students from UC3M and other universities.
Submissions across a broad spectrum of topics are welcomed, such as:
Political behavior
(Historical) Political economy
Comparative politics
Gender studies
Social stratification
Sociology of education
Applied economics
Proposals on other topics are also considered.
At least one call during the year is opened: around September. Nevertheless, proposals throughout the year are also considered for acceptance. Although we intend to conduct in-person seminars, online presentation options are also available to accommodate participants. Occasionally, this seminar features talks by senior scholars.
All members of the University Carlos III de Madrid are very welcome to attend. It is also opened to an external audience upon request. The calendar will be announced at the beginning of each term to the members of the mailing list. You can find the schedule on this webpage.
Please contact the organizers of PAPERSS, Lidia Núñez-Alañón, Álvaro San Román and Jose Maycas, through: paperss.seminars[at]gmail.com to be added to the mailing list and receive further information.
