PhD Opportunities

The Pantouris Lab at the University of the Pacific’s Department of Chemistry is inviting applications for two PhD positions, one focusing on protein chemistry and the second in computational chemistry with emphasis on MD simulations of biomolecules. Our research probes the structure-function relationships on novel immunomodulatory proteins that play a key role in cancer survival, proliferation, and metastasis. As a PhD student in our lab, you’ll dive deep into cutting-edge research aimed at uncovering new therapeutic strategies in oncology.

You will receive hands-on training and mentorship in a wide range of techniques, including:

These PhD positions offer an exceptional opportunity for aspiring scientists aiming to build a career in biochemistry, biotechnology, or medical research—whether in academia or the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. Located in Stockton, our campus is just a short drive from San Francisco, a global hub for biotech innovation and drug discovery, providing valuable proximity to leading companies and networking opportunities.

Beyond the lab, students can enjoy the vibrant lifestyle of Northern California. The state capital, Sacramento, is nearby, and weekend getaways to stunning natural destinations like Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, and the majestic Redwoods are easily within reach—offering a perfect balance of academic rigor and outdoor adventure.
