This paper is about the movie The Farewell and it goes into different cultures and delves into questions about what is right or wrong in a culture? And should we judge it?

Creating a Shared Reality

This paper is a reflection on two documentaries and an article and touches on topics of stereotyping, fetishism, romanticizing of other cultures. I talk about the harmful effects of this.

This paper talks about the wonders of film, but also how it can be used as a tool to distort reality. I also talk about the importance of who is telling the story.

Response Paper #6:

In Tehran

In this paper, I talk about the limitations and advances that animated films can have. I also weave in the conversation of culture and how our own cultural perspectives affect our opinion on other cultures. A fine line exists of respecting other cultures and when to know if something is actually wrong. I also talk about how insider's perspectives can be limited and I weave in another reading from a different class.

Response Paper #7:

What is Masculinity?

This paper is based on the film Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and how masculinity and beauty standards are viewed in different cultures. I talk about how the definition of masculinity in the Western world is toxic and that c an be the case in other cultures. Basically, I question what masculinity even really means.

This is a final reflection on the course. I weave in all the films/articles and make connections.
