Celebrating Joys in Every Day Activities, by: Linda Christensen
I chose this article to present about, because immediately the title stood out to me. There needs to be more times throughout the day that we celebrate the joys and success. Being a student teacher and, with the structure of my class, I work with students in the subject areas that they struggle in the most. Therefore, if we do not make the lessons fun and engaging then it will be even harder for the students to want to practice something they already struggle with.
Having a time of day where students are able to have designated time to focus on a joy I think can only have a positive impact. Students are expected to perform six and half hours a day, 5 days a week. A positive of setting aside time to ‘celebrate the joy in daily events’ will be beneficial to the students and the teacher.
I am already aware of the importance and power reflecting can do. Being able to reflect at any point during the day allows the mind and body to relax, which helps with mental health. And even though it can be very hard sometimes to see the positive in things, there is always one. Being a teacher is about teaching the students so many things besides just math, reading, science, social studies, and other subject areas. Being a teacher is about teaching kids how to be kids, be a good friend/classmate, and help them understand themselves.

To Dojiwe, my elephant friend
You passed away too soon
But before you left you blessed me with the best gift of all...happiness
I met you five years ago and you gave me a ride on your back
I'm thankful we got to to see each other one more time
