Due to the ongoing genocide, Gazans are presently being forced to make the impossible decision between martyrdom and ethnic cleansing. In the face of this impossible decision and unimaginable heartbreak, many families in Gaza are creating GoFundMe’s so they have a shot at survival.
Given that the very nature of colonial and imperial violence is to steal (wealth, resources, land, life itself), supporting Palestinian families' GoFundMe pages provides us with an opportunity to take our refusal of colonial and imperial violence beyond metaphor and into tangible action. It is an act of solidarity, collective care, mutual aid and resource redistribution. Palestinian resistance is interconnected with our own efforts to resist colonial and imperial forces within the contexts we are situated in. Doing our small part to respond to the urgent need for material resource redistribution is one way we can choose to push back against our fragmentation and complicity.
Operation Olive Branch is a grassroots movement to support and amplify aid requests of Palestinian families.
Gaza Funds is a project that connects people to crowdfunding campaigns for individuals and families from Gaza.
Gaza Municipality Repair Water Supply Fundraiser is working to repair water supply, waste management and sewage treatment in Gaza. Israel has deliberately targeted Gaza’s water infrastructure as a tool of genocide, inflicting mass harm and death through severe dehydration and disease.
As we commit to enacting solidarity with Gazans through direct material resource redistribution, we must keep in mind the larger picture so we know what we ultimately must fight to dismantle. The Refugee Resettlement Industrial Complex and the Military Industrial Complex profit off displaced Gazans by setting high prices to evacuate to safety. It costs thousands of dollars per person just for safe passage—and that doesn’t even begin to cover the cost of rebuilding their lives after they’ve been displaced.
Resource distribution that ultimately allows Gazans a chance to evacuate their homeland is not enough and will never be enough. We must make a firm commitment to leverage our privilege and power to be in co-struggle with Palestinians and fight for total liberation from the river to the sea. We must demand an end to the Israeli settler-colonial apartheid regime. We must demand a Free Palestine.
