4s Search & Destroy Campaign
April 13, 2022. Barangay health workers along with the students doctors conducted a search and destroy campaign in Purok Masidlakon. This campaign prevents the increase in number of dengue carrier mosquitoes.
April 22, 2022. The medical students along with the female residents of Barangay Tomitom celebrated the women's month with fun games and activities.
Thanks to Mayor Olegario's generosity. Snorkling, volleyball games, tiktok videos, every medicine student's dream of having a break from studies.

The Team is back! After 4 months of studying and training in Zamboanga City, The Team traveled for 2 hours and is back in the Municipality of Ipil to assist Barangay Tomitom in reaching sustainability in terms of health. This time, the team will be conducting surveys to every households within the community to identify their health problems and ultimately the health problems in the barangay.

Prior to conducting our objectives for this exposure, the team took some time to appreciate few of the many things that will make you prefer living outside the city. The fresh cool breeze, cold rivers and springs, and the wonderful people makes every community exposure memorable.

House-to-House Survey
Barangay Tomitom has 3 puroks. Purok Malipayon as the Center, Purok Masidlakon as the largest purok in terms of land area and population, and Purok Mahayahay as the 2nd largest purok in terms of land area but having the least number of population.
With every households surveyed, our members checks their Blood pressure and gives them advice to prevent illnesses and manage their comorbidities.
As we conducted our surveys farther from the Barangay Hall, by crossing rivers and hiking into the mountainous areas, more health problems were seen.
Problems such as lack of toilet sanitation, prevalence of hypertension, low COVID-19 vaccination rate , and other comorbidities such as diabetes and pulmonary tuberculosis

General Assembly
The assembly was conducted in Brgy. Tomitom's covered court last Sept. 17, 2022. The objective of this event is to hear the voices of the residents towards their issues and concerns in terms of health. The team was assisted by Barangay officials, staffs, and Barangay health workers, with the permission from Hon. Elsie Bolodo.
The residents raised their concerns and along with our team, the problems and concerns of the residents were ranked according to their priorities.

COVID Vaccination, Expanded Immunization Program, and Prenatal Services
The team assisted in the medical services provided by the local government unit along with the Nurse, Midwife, and Barangay health workers.
The team assisted in the COVID vaccination rate in the pediatric and geriatric community to further increase the vaccination rate within the community.

Barangay Council Meeting
The community has been facing health problems even before it became a barangay. While the local government unit along with its officials have been proactive in dealing with these problems, the prevalence of diseases and wrong practices among the community people keeps the community unhealthy.
The meeting with the Barangay officials discussing programs, projects and ordinances would serve as a stepping stone in achieving a healthy Barangay Tomitom.

After acquiring both primary and secondary datas, the team along with the residents have now identified the top 5 problems in Brgy. Tomitom; formulating health plans and strategies together with the Brgy. Officials and our community preceptors, the team is now ready to set the plan in motion!
Heart-racing events to manage high blood pressure...
CHP for Hypertension
What better way to lose weight than dancing? Scheduled Zumba session targeting identified hypertensive individuals and those who were interested to join for fitness. With the help of BHWs assigned per purok, people of all ages were encouraged to join the session. The Zumba sessions were held in 2 puroks every 5:30pm.
Walk in residents were screened through interviews and was assessed through blood pressure and blood sugar readings. This was conducted by the team to confirm their health status and eligibility to join the club.
Residents with diagnosed hypertension and other non communicable diseases were enrolled in the NCD Club for social support and further monitoring of their health.
What better way to control hypertension than to know more about it? Health lessons were conducted by the team to increase the residents' knowledge on the do's and don’t s regarding hypertension.

CHP for Solid Waste Management
After attending a meeting with MENRO(Municipal Environment and Natural Resource Office) It was stated that Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) was needed to be able to identify the type of waste products generated in Brgy tomitom to properly manage this problem.
Proper segregation, effects of improper SWM, and possible plans for solving waste problems were discussed.

With the help of Dr. Adnilre Verzon and Hon. Elsie Bolon, The BLS training was a success! Proper CPR, bandaging, lifting, and other skills were taught to the barangay officials, BHWs, and CVOs to minimize mortality due to lack of respondence.

Brgy. Council meeting
The team immediately kicked it off by joing the Brgy. Council meeting to plan the necessary measures to improve the health status of the residents.
The Team presented our plans for the barangay to be discussed with the officials. This includes our plans to decrease and control The prevalence of hypertension, to assist in the formulation and implementation of solid waste management, and assist in decreasing the number of households without toilet access.

After meeting with the Brgy. Council, The team conducted an event targetting the residents with non communicable diseases such as Hypertension and other commorbidities. This event focuses on Health teaching with free health assessments.

The goal of meeting with the affiliated agencies is to ensure collaboration towards the implementation of solid waste management and acquisition of necessary materials for the implementation.

Re-survey of households without toilet based on our gathered data from the previous exposure. The group assigned in this health plan hiked a bunch of mountains and crossed rivers.

Team tomitom in our 5th exposure
Equiped with more knowledge and skills, the team is ready to continue what they started 2years ago.. To better the health status of Brgy. Tomitom!
The team arrived in Brgy. tomitom on a Wednesday afternoon after their last semester of classes. the team is now embarking on a pre medical clerkship journey and what better way to showcase their gathered skills than helping the community.
The team relentlessly reinforced the projects started 2 years ago by strengthening connections with the affiliated agencies and concerned institutions.
Even with the scorching heat, The team continues the fight against NCD by conducting aerobic exercises and constant monitoring of identified residents with non communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.
A green environment requires a strong effort from both the residents and the government. The team serves as a bridge to further connect the thoughts and efforts of both parties towards the goal of having a cleaner and greener Brgy. tomitom.
After gathering data of residents with out toilet facilities, the team affiliated with institutions concerned for the health and sanitation regarding open defacation and improper toilet sanitation.

The team now on their final year in medschool will give everything they've got in their 10 months community exposure to aid the community people in their fight towards achieving a better quality of life in terms of health!
The team meets up with the community preceptors- Dr. Adnilre D. Verzon and Dr. Yrl Phares Agbayani. To re establish the roles and responsibilities in our last community immersion.
The team requested an audience with the barangay officials to review the ongoing projects regarding Hypertension, Solid waste management, and Toilet sanitation. A rally of ideas were pitched in during the meeting, this led to series of projects for the betterment of the community.
The battle towards hypertension continues. With the ideas pitched by the barangay officials, A BP controlled Brgy.Tomitom is now at sight.
Together with the barangay officials, The team discussed the importance of maintaining a normal blood pressure as well as the consequences of having hypertension. This led to a series of plans to aid the community people with problems regarding their blood pressure.
To fully equip the barangay on monitoring the blood pressure of the residents. The team conducted a BP seminar in the health station.
Another round of mass BP taking was conducted to re evaluate the blood pressure of each residents seen during the previous exposures.
The Team together with the Barangay officials held a Zumba competition among the NCD members to empower other residents with non communicable disease to join activities held in the barangay.
The team sat with the SWM committee to discuss the problems regarding the compliance of the residents on segregating solid wastes as well as finding a solution regarding this problem.
The team sought consult with the head of MENRO- Mr. Felix Badon. Pitching the ideas given by the barangay officials for proper solid waste managment
To empower the residents to practice proper solid waste management, The team together with the barangay officials held a contest using recyclable material. Thus, the lantern making competition was held on Dec. 05, 2024
Before monitoring the residents on proper solid waste management, The barangay officials started segregating their waste and was inspected by the team for proper segregation.
The Barangay conducted a weekly clean up drive and a monthly garbage collection from MENRO following the signing of MOU from the previous exposure.
An updated WACS guidelines was sent down by DOST. Thus, The med students were oriented by MENRO on how to properly conduct the newly updated WACS.
The team conducted another survey regarding residents with poor toilet sanitation and residents without access to toilet facilities
The team sought connections for the creation of IECs to be distributed on key areas in the barangay.
After the survey, The residents were invited to a lecture led by Mr. Rizalino Cinco- The sanitary inspector of Ipil. on the importance of having a good toilet sanitation.
Funding of the projects serves as a hurdle on aiding the residents to have a good toilet sanitation and a good toilet facility.
The team requested for an audience with Capt. Elsie Bolodo regarding the status of toilet sanitation and toilet facilities. The team together with the Barangay, sought solutions to combat this problem.
The team spoke with Engr. Culanculan on the construction of toilet facilities for residents without access to a toilet facility.

55th Araw ng Tomitom
From Pageant to Overflowing food competition, every resident in Brgy. Tomitom celebrated its 55th founding day.

The team is now halfway through the 10 months exposure and the fight to improve the community's quality of life in terms of health is getting heated up now more than ever!
The team is set to monitor, evaluate, and manage the projects that were started 4 years ago!
The battle towards hypertension continues.
With continuous health teaching and monitoring, the residents are keenly checking on their blood pressures and seeks regularly consults at the Brgy. Health station for their individual health status.
The team surveyed houses with residents aging 20 years old and above to monitor and provide heatlh education on the risk factors and effects of hypertension.
A post test was done to evaluate the knowledge of known hypertensive individuals regarding Hypertension, its risks and how to manage this condition.
Details regarding Hypertension and DASH diet posted in each purok for continuous visual cues to all residents.
The team went to the Dept of Agriculture and discussed possible vermiculture training to be conducted in Brgy. Tomitom.
An evaluation tool was drafted to monitor and evaluate the solid waste ordinance in the barangay incuding the integrity of the MRF and RCAs
The team started to pilot test the evaluation tool.
Monthly clean up drive in Brgy. Tomitom as a part of their ordinance to maintain the cleanliness in the community.
The team met with various NGOs to aid us in our fight to eradicate ZOD
The team met up with the toilet recipients along with the council to discuss on the porcess on how toilet facilities will be constructed.
The construction of toilet facilities started in purok malipayon. Which started with the resident digging their lot for the construction of septic tanks.
Along with the construction of toilet facilities and proper toilet sanitation, proper hand washing was taught in children.
