THE VENUE

PACLIC 38 will be held in Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) in Fuchu, Tokyo, Japan.
TUFS traces its origins to Bansho Shirabesho 蕃書調所 (Institute for Research of Foreign Documents), established by the Edo shogunate in 1857.  Its modern predecessor, however, is Tōkyō Gaikokugo Gakko 東京外国語学校 (Tokyo School of Foreign Languages), founded in 1873 through Kaisei Gakkō 開成学校 (current University of Tokyo) with five foreign language departments. This was reestablished in 1879 as an affiliate of Kōtō Shōgyō Gakkō 高等商業学校 and then in 1899 separated as an independent state-run institution after several name changes until the current.
Originally situated in Kanda Nishikicho in central Tokyo, its campus was then relocated to Kita Ward in northwestern Tokyo in 1940. In 2000 TUFS moved to its current location in Fuchu City (in Tokyo Metropolis), west of Tokyo proper.
