OUR MISSION
The South St Paul High School Trap Team exists to introduce students, from all backgrounds to clay target shooting sports in a safe and controlled environment, while developing self-confidence, character, and leadership and promoting the highest standards of safety, teamwork, fun and marksmanship, in that order.
Our team is led by an all-volunteer coaching staff. We are always in need of parents, or former trap team athletes that are interested in coaching or serving as Range Safety Officers. Please reach out to the SSP Trap Team if you have an interest. No prior coaching experience is necessary, just a willingness to work with a great bunch of kids! A background check will be required through SSP Schools.
The Packer Trap Team began in 2013 through the leadership of Stan Koich.
Packer Trap is open to all students 8th-12th grade. New athletes are welcome to the team.
Team meets Sundays 2-5PM and Tuesday afternoons 3-5PM at South St. Paul Sportsman's Gun Club, the season is from late March through May (exc. Easter Sunday & Memorial Weekend) . Students are required to have their own gun, however, ammunition is paid through the club sponsorships.
Spring 2026, 8th – 12th graders must have required FULL FIREARM SAFETY CERTIFICATE by the time the season starts late March.
Packer Trap does not receive funds from the high school and relies on community, friends and family to keep this sport going.
The USA Clay Target League is a nonprofit corporation and the nation’s leading independent provider of clay target shooting sports to secondary and postsecondary schools. The League’s priorities are safety, fun, and marksmanship – in that order.
Note: Every student that shoots on the South St Paul High School Trap Team must wear a team vest. If wearing a hat it must be a Trap Team Hat.
