Third Grade or 8-9 Yrs
The Bear rank, typically earned by 3rd graders, helps Scouts grow as role models in their pack by building responsibility, practical skills, and community awareness. To earn it, Scouts complete six required Adventures—covering fitness, personal safety, duty to God, citizenship, nature study, and outdoor skills—plus at least two electives such as fishing, critter care, or science. These activities emphasize physical fitness, safety, spiritual growth, environmental awareness, and hands-on outdoor abilities. Bears also complete the annual “Protect Yourself” child safety requirement. The program blends fun and learning to prepare Scouts for the greater independence and leadership opportunities of the Webelos rank.
