Youth Protection
The safety and protection of all scouts in our pack is the #1 priority of Pack 913, as well as our charter organization St. Joseph's Church, and the Boy Scouts of America as well. To ensure this at all times, ALL adult leaders must, without any exception, abide by these strict policies:
Background checks are performed on all prospective adult leaders (BSA and Archdiocese adult volunteer policy)
As adult volunteers of St. Joseph's Parish, all scout leaders MUST complete Virtus training, which also includes a separate background check
No adult leader application will be accepted without printed confirmation of the completion of BSA's Youth Protection Training Course
We practice "two-deep" leadership at all times, meaning, there will always be at least two adults in the presence of a scout or group of scouts.
Scouts can only tent with other like-aged scouts; or only with his own parent. No exceptions, not even with parental permission.
In addition, all scouts are trained on how to recognize, avoid, prevent, and report inappropriate behavior from any adult or youth individual. Each cub scout handbook contains a section at the beginning explaining this to the boys, and is required for advancement to the next rank. All scouts must purchase a handbook at the beginning of each scouting year.
These strict measures go far above and beyond what's required of sports coaches and even school teachers in the area's public school system. If any scout or parent should ever question our youth protection policies, or witness, hear, or suspect any behavior that runs contrary to these policies, or compromises the safety, privacy or protection of any member of the pack, please report it immediately.
Internet Privacy
It is our policy to include only first names and last initials when naming scouts on public Internet pages such as this site and our Pack Facebook Fan page.
