New to Cub Scouting? Here's how it works...

WHO?

Cub Scouts is for boys and girls from 5K to 5th grade, in groups of the same age, called “dens” and moving up in “ranks” corresponding to school grades:

5K Lion

1st Tiger

2nd Wolf

3rd Bear

4th Webelos

5th Arrow of Light (AOL)

All the ranks, when meeting together are called the “Pack” and ours is #324

WHAT?

Here is what you should expect get get out of cub scouting:

FUN!    ADVENTURES!     FRIENDSHIPS!   HONOR & DUTY!

Each rank does adventures that repeat in themes year after year, getting more and more involved, just like school, but hands-on and fun. Those themes are:

Duty to country and citizenship

Duty to God and moral

Outdoor skills (safety, first aid, knots, navigation, camping, etc.)

Physical fitness and sportsmanship

Optional adventures related to STEM, Arts & Aquatics/water safety

Safety is always at the forefront of everything we do.

Youth Protection

Age appropriate activities

WHEN?

Here is what you should expect to put into it: two (2) meetings per month and one (1) outing per month.  Parents will also meet once a month to plan activities. We call this group of parents the Pack Committee (click this link for more info)

WHERE?

We normally meet at St. Thomas Aquinas School: 302 S 2nd St, Waterford, WI 53185. Most camping takes place at Wadewitz or camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta (Burlington). But it’s up to the parents if we want to do something different.

HOW?

All adventures have been designed for the kids to learn while having fun. Parents are expected to pitch in as they can, depending on skills and availability. Join in the fun and become a committee member! Like the rest of life, we get out of it what we put into it. And just as the cub scout motto goes: “Do you best”

WHY?

Help your kid become a good citizen. The Scout Oath sums it all:

“On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country. To obey the Scout law. To help others at all times. To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.”

COST?

First year: when signing in September $60 plus Uniform  (Lion: $33*) (Other ranks ~$92*)  *optional item to add

Following years: $140* but most kids easily do enough fundraising to cover year-over-year costs.

Camps and other activities each come at a cost that varies.

*Detail of cost:

Special activities are added to it but can be covered with the money from fundraising.

Uniform:

Our pack does not require the full uniform. Jeans are fine and we don’t care what socks you wear!  Required for Lions are the t-shirt and cap. Other ranks: shirt with badges, neckerchief and slide and belt. (you pay for the first year only) We highly recommend the hat as well.

MEETING DATES:

See our calendar for current planned activities. We try to accommodate for needs and conflicts like sports. We often cancel the pack meeting if there is an outing that month. We try to camp 3-4 times a year.

***subject to change - Indoor meetings at St. Thomas Aquinas in the basement.

2022-2023
