What We Do - Meetings and Activities
We meet as a whole group once a month, at 6 pm on the second Tuesday of the month, at Urban Community School (4909 Lorain Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102). Pack meetings can involve all grade levels working together on adventure requirements or dens may break up to work on grade specific activities. Sometimes we have guest speakers such as city council members, police officers, or firefighters come as well to speak to the group.
Additionally, each den meets once a month in the evenings during the week. These are generally the 4th Tuesday of the month, also at UCS from 6-7pm, though can vary based on the availability of the individual families in the den.
The whole pack also meets up once a month for a weekend activity throughout the year. Details for our monthly adventures vary from year to year, but include hikes, a pinewood derby where kids get to make their own car to race against others, and a recycled rain gutter regatta, where the kids build sailboats out of recycled materials and race them down a track. We also attend several Lake Erie Council events throughout the year, some day trips and others overnight, which include fun activities like rock walls, archery, crafts, obstacle courses, slingshots, and bb guns. Past pack activities have included trips to the Cleveland Museum of Art, the USS Cod submarine, and various nature centers around town. (Some monthly activities are free while others might have an additional fee. Council events can run ~ $30-60 per scout to cover activity supplies, food, etc.)
We don’t do our normal pack and den meetings over the summer, but continue to meet up so the kids and adults and can keep in touch. This usually involves a monthly playground meetup on the 2nd Tuesday night of the month, as well as a monthly activity like a hike or bike ride. We also usually all go to a scout night at a minor league baseball game where you get to camp out on the field afterwards. There is a council sponsored campout as well over the summer where scouts can work on advancements. This one also includes water activities like swimming, boating and fishing in addition to the usual fun with BB guns, archery, and rock climbing.
We also participate in several service projects over the course of the year. These generally include things like cleaning up trash at various locations and collecting canned goods to donate to the food bank. We’ve also done things like putting together first aid kits to send to Ukraine and Gaza, and helping local churches with tasks like painting, organizing supplies, and general cleanup.
