A place to belong. A place to learn. A place to flourish.
Choosing a secondary school is an important decision for every family. At St Kentigern’s Academy, we want every young person who walks through our doors to feel that they belong, that they are known and valued, and that they have the opportunity to become the very best version of themselves.
Our ambition goes beyond examination results. We want our young people to leave St Kentigern’s with excellent qualifications, but also with confidence, strong values, memorable experiences and the skills they need for whatever comes next.
Here are just some of the reasons why we believe St Kentigern’s is a special place to learn and grow.
❤️ A School Where You Belong
Every young person should feel known, valued and part of something.
Moving from primary to secondary school is exciting, but we know it can also feel daunting. St Kentigern’s is a large school, but we work hard to make it feel like a close community.
Every pupil belongs to one of our three Houses — Ninian, Columba or Margaret — giving them an identity and a smaller community within the wider school.
Our Key Adult approach means pupils have regular contact with an adult who gets to know them, while our pastoral and support teams are there when additional help is needed.
From the first days of S1, our aim is simple: we want every young person to know that they belong at St Kentigern’s.
📚 A School with High Expectations
We believe every young person is capable of achieving.
At St Kentigern’s, learning matters.
We have high expectations of our pupils and of ourselves. We want classrooms to be calm, purposeful and challenging places where young people are encouraged to think, participate and make progress.
Our approach to learning and teaching is built around the St Kentigern’s Lesson, helping pupils understand three important things:
What am I learning?
Why am I learning it?
How will I know I have been successful?
We continually evaluate and improve what happens in our classrooms because every young person deserves consistently excellent learning and teaching.
🎓 A School Where You Can Achieve
Success looks different for every young person.
We are ambitious for the achievement of every pupil.
Throughout their time at St Kentigern’s, young people are supported to build qualifications, develop skills and make informed choices about their future.
Our pupils progress to a wide range of destinations including university, college, apprenticeships, training and employment.
Whatever a young person’s starting point or destination, our responsibility is the same: to help them achieve as much as they possibly can.
🌍 Opportunities Beyond the Classroom
School should be about discovering what you’re capable of.
Some of the most memorable parts of school life happen beyond the classroom.
At St Kentigern’s, pupils can become involved in sport, music, performing arts, STEM, Caritas, leadership, volunteering, competitions, trips, clubs, cultural activities, careers experiences and much more.
These experiences allow young people to discover new interests, develop confidence, make friendships and learn skills that will stay with them long after they leave school.
Our ambition is that every pupil finds something at St Kentigern’s that makes them think:
“This is for me.”
🤝 A School That Will Support Your Child
Young people learn best when they feel safe, supported and understood.
Every child is different, and some will need more support than others at different points in their school journey.
Our House, pastoral, Key Adult and Support for Learning structures work together to ensure that young people have adults they can turn to.
We also work closely with families and partner agencies when additional support is required.
For pupils who may need extra help with the move to secondary school, we can provide enhanced transition opportunities so that St Kentigern’s begins to feel familiar before the first day of S1 even arrives.
We don’t expect every child to need the same support. We aim to provide the right support for the individual young person.
🌱 A School Where Young People Flourish
Our values shape the people we want our young people to become.
Our vision for St Kentigern’s is captured in one word:
FLOURISH
Faith • Learning • Opportunity • Unity • Reflection • Integrity • Service • Hope
These values are about much more than words on a wall.
They reflect our ambition for every young person: to develop their talents, care for others, make good choices, contribute to their community, overcome challenges and look to their future with hope.
As a Catholic school, our faith and values sit at the heart of our community, while we warmly welcome and value young people and families from a range of backgrounds.
🏫 A School Looking to the Future
St Kentigern’s is a school with a proud history and an exciting future.
Our school continues to change and improve.
Significant investment in our campus has provided new and improved learning spaces for our young people, while our staff continue to develop our curriculum, learning and teaching, pathways and wider opportunities.
Our pupils deserve a school that doesn’t stand still.
That’s why improvement at St Kentigern’s isn’t something that happens occasionally — it is part of who we are.
🏅 A Community Built on Respect
We want St Kentigern’s to be a place where young people feel respected, listened to and encouraged to take responsibility.
Our work as a Gold Rights Respecting School reflects our commitment to creating a community where the rights, dignity and voice of every young person matter.
We want pupils not simply to attend St Kentigern’s, but to contribute to it — through pupil leadership, Houses, Caritas, volunteering, clubs, events and the many opportunities to help shape our school community.
