2. Reflect on the most encouraging words you can recall hearing growing up? My mother and my grandparents always gave me encouraging words as a child. I always went to them when I was upset about anything as a child and a teenager until I lost my grandparents.
What were they?
As a child I was insecure about my dark skin tone. I went to my mother one day and said I want to be light skin, and she said why? I told her that everyone was light except me and that I didn't thing I was pretty. She looked at me and "said the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice. I looked at mother and in my head I said what is she talking about. By the time I became a teenager I had understood and my confidence was through the roof.
What words you can recall hearing as an adult?
I became a mother at a very young age, so I had to be an adult early in life. One day I going through some life things. I went to him crying and said to him that things keep happening back to back, He said" baby girl God don't put on you no more than you can bare." What are some things we can do to encourage students to reach out to us when they are in need?
Talk to them and let them know that you are there for them
Hug them and ask questions about their emotions.
Share your emotions so they will understand what they mean
I do roll play with my children about different scenario.
