Types of Rockwell Test:
Rockwell Test:In this minor load of 10 kgf and major loads of 60,100,150 kgf is applied.
Superficial Rockwell Test:In this minor load of 3 kgf and major loads of 15, 30,45 kgf is applied.

Place the specimen on the anvil.
Raise the anvil along with the specimen so that the specimen touches the indenter.
Gradually apply load by means of handle provided on the right side of the instrument.
Duration of application of the load should be 10 to 30 sec. [ for ferrous metals 10 sec, softer metal 30 sec]
Remove the load and Measure the diameter of impression on the test specimen by microscope fitted with a scale.
Calculate Brinell hardness number by using fromula, BHN = Load Appplied / Area of indentation
Spcimen
Diameter of Indenter (D) in mm
Diameter of Indentation (d) in mm
Duration in which load applied (Sec)
Hardness of two diffrent materials is compaired by using Brinell hardness test experiment.
