Many students "want" college, often with no realistic connection to a career! But that's what most schools "teach" students. ("Don't worry about the cost, kid. Just "trust" that things will work out. You can get "free money" from Mom and Dad, or the government.")
Schools just want students to enroll in college. Then they're off the hook. They don't track the percentage of graduates actually getting degrees, relevant jobs, or careers. They don't care, or they WOULD track those numbers!
Students have very little connection with the demands and requirements or actual jobs. Most of the time, students are only FANTASIZING about a career. You know what they don't. You don't really know what you like or hate about work ... until you're working! (That doesn't account for sudden changes in the job, either.)
When teaching Economics, I taught Cost/Benefit Analysis. The only way to make rational decisions is to weigh the Costs with the most likely Benefits. This Project help parents and students do that.
