Upon moving to Galway I quickly realised it was absolutely essential to my everyday happiness to figure out the best places for chicken wings in my new home, thus creating my weekly tradition known as Chicken Wing Tuesday. Here’s how they ranked!
1. Monroe’s – Honestly my only fault with Monroe’s was their ambiance. In regards to the wings, they tasted amazingly! There was a perfect amount of spice, crunch and succulent insides, but their vibe was just off the mark for me.
2. The Chilli Shack – What was particularly striking about these wings was the variety, as there were options for levels of spice. As I went with a group I was able to test out all three flavours and my favourite were without a doubt the extra spicy. However, they were the most expensive and so are not very student friendly.
3. The Sliding Rock – These were the first wings I tested out on my Chicken-Wing-Tuesday journey and they were good enough to inspire me to continue. As it sits right beside college it’s easily accessible to students and cost friendly. The wings themselves, with good flavour and a nice size rest at a solid seven out of ten.
4. Seven – As an employee of theirs I’m trying to remain unbiased here! Overall the experience was great, but personally I found the wings a little small for my liking. However, it has to be said, they did provide the best value for money. Portion sizes were exceptional but don’t get your sauce on the side.
5. The Kings Head – We ventured to The Kings Head with high expectations as it has such a name for itself in this city, yet were slightly underwhelmed. Although the food was not bad it didn’t love up to the expectations. I’d give the wings a generous five out of ten as they were accompanied by great chips but again were slightly pricey for the quality of food received.
