Welcome to Vireyla. Virelya is a vibrant fantasy world loosely based on the continent of Africa, with its own deep-rooted culture sprouting from the decay of the human drones that once walked it. It's littered with plains, beaches, and swamps, each field pulsing with life. Yet not all is peaceful.
The world is shaped by motion, and the land beneath each paw shifts, ancient magic curdles like a memory through each vein; the wandering legacies and reclaimed land from the past breathe new futures cultivated by the present.
Each region offers its own unique danger and history to uncover, from traditions to survival, the lush overgrowth thrives from the scars of the forgotten world. Virelya carried the weight of the living lands, and true to its name, the earth breathes and hungers for vengeance.
Tread carefully, traveler, the land here will not wait for you to catch your breath. Be prepared to write your legacy, or be buried beneath it.
Our Xenon Gaia's roleplay started within a dome known as The Earth's Sun. Built by the drones that once walked all of Virelya, the Sun gave birth to mutated felines, known as Sunborns. There's a call on the horizon, summoning animals young and old, Sunborn and Feralborn, to one, cultivated point; A path to find the remnants and bring back the goddess of the land, prepare for another unavoidable war, and recover the secrets of the land they walk. Every little decision changes the outcome of the plot. Every single whisper brushes against the wings of the butterfly as it flaps. Danger lurks beneath the surface, and thousands of secrets are trapped within the soil.
It's up to them to dig them up before it's too late.
Sylterra:
Sylterra is by far the most diverse country within Virelya. Having the highest saturation of beasts of any other landmass, making up the continent. Riddled with deserts, forests, valleys, and beaches, this continent is home to many ecosystems, from freshwater rivers walled by tall oak and pine trees to arid canyons guarded by dangerous sand wyrms. The locals within civilizations such as Myragga, Cyndel, and The Forgotten City grow accustomed to the sound of winds whispering through the canopy, the gravelly craw of crows, thundering waterfalls, and larger-than-life plants drowning out the wail of hungry beasts that hunt within the forest. The large landmass sees a diversity of climates, with Duvira, shadowed by The Remnant Curve, seeing very little rainfall throughout the year. The harsh, arid desert bleeds into the rest of Sylterra, into a dense, lively, temperate rainforest teeming with life before flowing into the sandy coast. Sylterra is defended from much of the worst weather by a myriad of islands and peninsulas guarding it, making it one of the mildest climates in Virelya.
Lysmere:
Lysmere is a veiled, semi-isolated kingdom nestled within the vast brackish wetlands known as the Deluged Girdle, defined by its haunting beauty, mirrored architecture, and decaying grandeur. Suspended between monsoon-fed canopy groves and tidal-rooted mangrove systems, Lysmere is a society built on reflection. Lysmere’s climate is warm and humid, and perpetually misted year-round, with seasonal heavy fogs, heavier rains, and a hauntingly quiet drought season. This climate feeds an incredibly diverse biosphere of croaking frogs, bioluminescent flora and fungi, and buzzing insects that all sustain yet obscure the lives within.

Many millennia ago, there was a spike in the Xenon molecules in the air, as scientists all over the world observed this phenomenon, those without the means to protect themselves from this new imbalance began to become sick slowly, the globe falling into a world of disarray as mother nature created a fever for its sickness. In desperate retaliation to eventual extinction, the humans built The Domes. All the domes did was prolong their extinction, they got to watch through the years how the earth shifted and changed around them, becoming a world they could not walk in and could not familiarize themselves with. A Gaia reclaimed by nature. As the days stretched on, supplies within the dome grew thin. Riots, fights, and dying crops drove the humans to near insanity, only accentuated by the leaks of Xenon that wisped into the dome. They had yet to find a way to combat the risk of roaming the tainted earth. Many days passed, but eventually, there was hope, reports of animals that had survived the blight, though carrying mutations previously unprecedented, it was a flicker of what could be and a new yearning for the future. Instantly, the humans got to work, finding a viable way to explore the now unfriendly terrain and inspect the wandering subjects that drifted from the animals they once knew. This was 15 years ago, the creatures that wandered closer to The Dome they had built, giving the humans a glimpse of a future they could reclaim. It was time to take back the world they had lost.
But this story isn't about the humans, but rather the animals they found their futures in. The Felines of the dome, and the true beginning of their explorations into a world now unknown.
The Experiments – Date: November 30th, 4047
By Month 24, after the discovery of the X–Gene’s prevalence within the Felis Catus family, Dr. Hiro was recruited MPX Project, and partnered closely with Dr. Black and Dr. Marvus they began their experiments on Dr. Black's own 2-year-old Maine coon, Zeus, or as referenced through history, Experiment 0. As the days passed with no change, Dr. Black became more and more unstable, cursing the impatience of the general public and the incompetence of the government, which began to dwindle funds as the project dragged on. It took many more months and near closure of the MPX project before Experiment 0 began to exhibit signs of change, first as lethargy and erratic behavior, Experiment 0’s ears drooped, and horns began to sprout from his head. His tail eventually began to lose blood flow at the tip, leading to the doctor having to dock it for his safety. His claws fused over time into two back hooves in place of paws, but overall, the process was non-invasive and not dangerous for Experiment 0, who remained healthy after all was said and done. After collecting blood samples, the hopeful doctors will bring Experiment 0 to the board for more funding to continue their experimentation.
To a better tomorrow – MPX
During the first roleplay, titled "A New Hope," The roleplayers followed the main NPC, Experiment 0. At the time, Experiment 0 was credited with being the savior. The first of the experiments. A Successful hybridization of Big Horned Sheep and Maine Coone. This was quickly followed by more successful experiments. However, no one noticed how the main doctor of the MPX project became more and more paranoid, and in turn, his comrade Experiment 0 seemed to follow suit. E0 began to slowly change, a once sweet cat becoming erratic and violent. The Humans (known as Drones to all outsiders) tried to isolate him from the rest of the experiments. Sadly, this led to one of the leading and most favored scientist's demise. Dr. Hiro, who attempted to find out what was wrong, was killed by Experiment 0 himself.
Out of options, the scientist began to implement a failsafe. The true first mutant that allowed them to search for the gene that mutated the rest. The Captain. A feline that was saved from outside the dome. E0 did not take kindly to his replacement and lashed out, attempting to tear The Captain down. He hollered about how the humans were poisoning them, how they were going to kill them off and replace them, that he’d seen the replacements himself.
Given that their caretaker had shown ill intent, the cats opted not to believe him. After being beaten and burned by The Captain and the other felines, Experiment 0 slinks away with the promise of regret on his tongue.
Important Terms
The Shift: The power exchange from Experiment 0 to The Captain after their battle within The Lab ended in Ea0’s defeat and vow of regret.
The Bulwark Network: A Parting gift from Dr. Black before he left the MPX Program in the form of Malware that plagues the Cy-Dogs of the Seeker Project.
A month after Experiment 0 slinks away, things in the labs begin to go awry. It seems the events of The Shift left broken cables, destroyed vials, and destruction beyond the scope of one measly feline popping up left and right within the area the felines called home. The Scientist, out of options and believing that one cat couldn’t do all of this harm alone, banished the Experiments out to the Faux forest, a forest that was cultivated specifically for them, still connected to the labs, so they could train for when they’d be eventually released outside of the dome. Rightfully so, the Experiments feel betrayed by this action as they’ve not done anything wrong.
The Captain helps them set up camp in the forest and then seems to disappear for a while, rarely visiting them unless it's to teach them to hunt, stalk, and spar. Effectively, the Experiments are on their own and must come up with a plan.
One feline in the group notices movement in the trees; however is mute and unable to communicate it.
As uncertainty grows, they decide to split up. Group 1 decides to trek to the labs, and Group 2 decides to look for The Captain. Both groups are effectively ambushed by an entity coined under the term of Cy-Dogs. Powered on by the Bulwark Network with one goal. Exterminate the experiments.
Group 1 is saved miraculously by E0, while Group 2 is rescued by The Captain.
The two NPCs lead the group back to the same bunker, and The Captain leaves with the promise that E0 will lead them to the safe house. Dr. Hiros' mansion.
Except as they follow E0, they are caught by Dr. Hiro’s wife is glad to see them… but it's revealed that E0 was never leading them to the safe house at all; rather, he was heading the opposite direction completely.
After being questioned and foiled again, Experiment 0 gives them an ultimatum, not that they had seen the truth and witnessed the replacements, the Cy-Dogs trying to kill them. Yet again, the Experiments choose The Captain and The humans over Experiment 0.
Experiment 0, frustrated, leaves one more, and the experiments are led to the safe house with Dr. Hiro’s wife, Carter.
Prologue – The Labs: Phase 2 – Psychomachy
Another month passes without much havoc, though different The Experiments know peace for a while around Carter in Dr. Hiro's mansion. Come April, however, tensions once again begin to rise within Their Home. Dr. Carter has gone missing, and the experiments awaken to the house's security system barling. Though the noise of a conversation is heard, a threat towards the life of Dr. Carter, and abruptly the Experiments decide they need to locate and help her, as she had been the only scientist to care and take them in. They split once more. One group headed towards the private archives that were deep in Dr. Hiro’s gardens, and the others decided to search the house.
The first group comes into contact with a feline named Nimi, a young kitten who puts them to sleep with an ability they had never seen before, forcing them to play her game within the grasp of a never ending nightmare. They either win or they die trying.
The second group comes into contact with Experiment 0 once more. However, this time he's different, metal has been forced onto his body, and he seems blank and robotic, following orders painfully. It becomes clear to this group that the previous acting out form E0 had been a desperate cry for help. One that they had all ignored, and after a harrowing battle, they have to kill their old friend. Experiment 0’s last words were a silent thank you to the cats who he had grown up with and The Captain.
After searching the house, Group 2 reunites with Group 1, who is still stuck within the effects of the other cat's ability. Unable to wake them up, they turn to the kitten to do it. Realizing her mistake, as the sickly kitten had just wanted to protect Dr. Carter from the bad people, too, she forced her ability to stop, turning it on herself instead. Before she passes, she points the group in the direction of the lab. The Experiments bury her and thank her for her sacrifice before going to save Dr. Carter, who is being held at gunpoint by Dr. Black.
Dr. Black summons the dogs through the Bulwark Network to attack the cats, but he is stopped by the cats, who come close to mauling him.
This action does not come without consequences and thanks to Dr. Black being in critical condition, The Citizens of The Dome become wary of them, and they are once more forced to relocate so Dr. Carter can do damage control.
Prologue – The Labs: Phase 3 – Philanthropy
The Experiments have bunkered down in a Bakery Owned by Mrs. Dots, a blind old lady who has been acting funny. After being displaced a second time rightfully so, all of them are pissed off and ansty, trying their damndest not to lash out as they've been tasked throughout the week with one job. Help around and boost their popularity with the public. Suffice to say, not all of them were successful, and sadly, their efforts only proved to divide the dome into two. For the first time in the history of the domes, Chaos has erupted, and a civil war had broken out. Unbeknownst to The Experiments, as Dr. Carter and the Mayor tried to do damage control, the riots had compromised the structural integrity of The Dome. Even though during their time they had recruited more mutating felines, they never had felt more isolated and alone.
Having had enough, the group decides to find their way back to the mansion. They want their lives back, and want answers to what ever the hell is going on. Sadly, instead, they get the harrowing truth about their situation. As they leave the safety of the bakery, the group feels watched, and is soon attacked by something they've never seen before. There is no battling it as it's too quick, and swiftly kills one of them, grievously wounding another. In a panic, they realize that the dome is more compromised than they originally thought; whatever it is that had attacked them has been driven away by the fluttering of wings of what has come to be known as the Varin Swarm. They are lucky that someone in the group can communicate with the stupid beast driven by hunger. Not wanting to test their luck, they quickly leave. Sacrificing one of the severed wings torn off their wounded comrade for a ride back to the mansion.
As they arrive, they are told that they can no longer stay within the domes but will be welcomed back only periodically, and all experimentation has to cease. The Experiments are given the chance to relax before their lives change forever.
Prologue – Vivarian Valley: Phase 4 – Selah
After resting in The Domes for a month The Experiments finally begin their expidition, under the guidance of The Captain they eneter Vivarian Valley with high hopes for the future, and as they explore the Valley for the first two months all is well. They make friends with outsiders they didn't know existed who join their group excitedly! It's when summer reaches its peak that that everyone who had joined the group gets what is known as The Call.
Find the Remnants.
Confused the group tries to ignore this call but it proves to be futile, one thing becomes glaringly clear, their adventure was far from over. As they explore a summer storm gathered in the distance, and sound of thousands of wings flying above the now much smaller dome. The Varin swarm... yet instead of going for the moving prey, they flee, flying straight over them in a panicked flurry of movement. Horror dawns on the group their leisurely walk to new adventure becomes a sink of danger. Lighting strikes way to close and as the near the forest another beast emerges, the fox sized being snapping and driving them back as they run from the storm, a storm that seem way to intelligent to simply be a normal storm.
Its in this tussle that they lose four more comrades before they enter the forest, shaken and distraught as they search for some sort of shelter. They eventually find an abandoned cabin to huddle in for the night. curled together for comfort as they take in their situation. The Captain had been killed, and along with the nightmares telling them to find the remnant. They were effectively alone.
Lost in the forest, the group, now grown in size, tries to find a way to salvation. As of now, they've barely scraped by, getting out of Vivarian Valley with four fewer members thanks to Martin and The Varin Swarm. As they navigate the forest, their sanity slowly begins to fall. Fear is palpable, they feel watched. As they continue, they come face to face with one of the inhabitants of Zibiente forest. A Bolva beast, staring at them carefully. However, it wasn't this that was watching them. One feline is snatched away by something much bigger, a nameless being that threatens to eat the characters. They distract the beast, realizing it's easily overwhelmed by sound. They create a spark, a flame, and finally an explosion. When they wake, the group is with Mei Lian being tended to for severe burns within Myragga. A town they had no idea even existed. It's revealed that they've been out for at least three days. Shocked, and mostly healed and ready to explore, they meet Twistedsoul briefly, Scarab, and The Cursadors, hailed as dangerous fiery heroes and promptly invited to The Pitts. Where they come face to face with a cat they thought had been killed back in The Valley.
The Captain.
