K-3  Mrs. Semet

The Week of April 29th

Students can find the Clever log in QR code on their ring card where their Teach Your Monster to Read info is.  This QR code will allow students to log in to educational games, such a First in Math.  Please take advantage of these games and apps for your child to use on their tablets.  Encourage your child to play these games (maybe have your child play 10 or 15 minutes before they are allowed to watch YouTube or play Roblox). Please go to Clever.com or download the Clever app and then scan the QR code.

Please make your child has a jacket each day.  We go outside in the morning and were we play is still in the shade.  Students are complaining about being cold because they are only in a hoodie.

Please make sure that your child has a towel/placemat for snack and lunch.  Students also should have napkins packed.  Snack time is approximately 15 minutes.  Some students are coming in with 3 and 4 snacks and 2 drinks.  After snack we head outside to play.  Those with multiple snacks and drinks are missing time outside with us because they are taking too long to eat everything that was packed.

A written absent note must be sent in to school the day your child returns to school with the date they were absent along with the reason for their absence.

All envelopes must be labeled with your child's name and what is being ordered.  If there is no name or no order your child will not receive hot lunch or snack.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Hot lunch money is due on Thursday for lunch on Friday (no drink is included).  Snack money for next week is also due on Thursday for next week's snack.  No late orders can be accepted.  If you are ordering both, please put them in separate labeled envelopes: name, class, what the money it for.

Please be aware that we go outside almost every day unless it is raining or below freezing.  Students need a jacket.  The school sweatshirt is not sufficient to go out and play in the cold weather.  Students are complaining that they are cold.

Please send all money in a labeled envelope.  I had multiple orders sent in this past week with money just thrown in the folder, stapled to an order form or wrapped in an order form.  Whether it is for hot lunch, snack money, brown bag express, paint orders, etc.  it must be in a labeled envelope.  I am not responsible for loose money.

Absolutely no weapons are permitted for secret sharing, this includes Nerf guns.

All written homework is to be completed in pencil.

Here is the link to my Google Meets https://classroom.google.com/c/MTU4MTMxNDYwOTE2?cjc=2vivulb  and the code 2vivulb.  You will need these if you do not have the Google Classroom app and the Google Meet app downloaded.

Religion: Prayer (Talking to God, the Hail Mary and the Our Father)

Math: Measurement- to identify which holds more/less; order objects by capacity, which holds most/least; identify hot/cold temperatures

ELA:

The letter: Yy

Words to Know: has, play, find, over, where

Reader: We Can Play

**Each week a story will be sent home one night to be read. This is a story that we have been working on together in class throughout the week. When it is sent home I ask you to sit with your child as he/she reads it to you.  Students should be pointing to each word as they read for one to one correspondence. Please return the book the next day in your child's pencil case.  The Scholastic Reader and pencil case are just like our folders, they go home and must come back.

Secret Sharing: something that begins with the letter Yy.

For example,  some yarn or yogurt.

** Please see the secret sharing directions below for which day your child is assigned.  Part of secret sharing is having your child tell us clues.  If the item your child wants to share can't fit in the brown lunch bag, they can draw or print out a picture.  If the secret sharing item is not in a brown bag with clues your child will not be able to share their item.

Scholastic Reader Information:

Scholastic Ideas for Reading at Home

1. While reading the story aloud with your child, follow each word with your finger to show that you must go from the top of the page to the bottom and from left to right.

2."Echo" read - read a sentence and then have your child repeat what you read.

3. Point out that sentences begin with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark.

4. Look at the sight words at the end of each book to review.

Secret Sharing Information:

Students will place an item that goes along with a theme or letter that we are working on in a brown bag.  The object must fit in the brown bag.  You can even draw or print out a picture if you need to.  Students are to dictate 3 clues to you that you write on the outside of the brown bag.  On their sharing day, students will read the clues to the class.  The class will try to guess the object based off of the clues.  If your child forgets their secret sharing, it is considered missed homework and they will not be able to do it the next day.  Your child has a number on their folder, pencil case and ring card.  This number corresponds with the day that they will do secret sharing...
