Planning and Preparation
As our school is located in one of the most famous Victorian seaside resorts, Llandudno, the opportunities for the children to explore the different aspects of the coast were plentiful.
Firstly, we asked the pupils what they knew about the coast and what they would like to know about the coast. They came up with an enormous amount of questions to explore further and we tailored the project around a good handful. The ones that we chose to explore were ones that we felt could give them a deeper understanding of the coast, and appreciate it for its complexity and magnitude.
For the preparation of this project, numerous resources needed to be sourced or purchased, and communication was established with various agencies and companies for organizing visits and workshops, which were offered at no cost. A lot of research was conducted beforehand in order to fully comprehend the science and terminology behind what we were teaching, of which often came from Youtube videos and online articles; which helped greatly in our confidence and ability to explain and stretch.
Other contributing factors that should be considered is that most of these small projects within the 'Our Cool Coast' pack requires some prior learning in order for the pupils to fully engage and get the most out of them.
Suitability & Adaptability
Suitability
The suitability of this pack is for PS3 pupils with certain task extensions opening up opportunities for PS4.
Adaptability
This pack, containing numerous projects, can be modified for PS2. While some projects are geared towards PS3 and higher, it is possible to extract elements and adapt them for younger PS students. The fundamental learning objectives remain intact, albeit conveyed differently and utilizing varied skills.
