Make the most of our coast!
Seashore Sculptures.
Foreword
This lesson will give pupils the opportunity to be creative and explore the Art in STEAM. They will focus on creating sustainable art on the beach, but also incorporating elements of litter found nearby. After the art has been photographed, the natural resources will be put back where they were found and the litter put in a bin bag and taken away.
Previous Learning
Pupils will have seen the work of Welsh artist Tim Pugh as well as art from John Foreman with his project Sculpt the World – their aims discussed in classroom discussions about environmental damage.
Pupils have been to the beach to make observations on interesting shells, creatures and items that they had seen.
Resources
Beach visit, iPads, disposable gloves, information & example sheets, bin bags.
Activities
Pupils to visit the local beach with their example cards in hand. After wearing the disposable gloves they are to search for items to organise and group. Natural + manmade, alive at some point + non-living etc.
Pupils are to construct sculptures from their finds on the beach.
Some might wish to create animals, some might wish to make a statement like Tim Pugh does about the environment. They are to think about what they are trying to portray and with what materials.
Pupils are to take photos of their creations, ready to share.
How It Looked
