Mirana’s and Jefferson’s Life in Storybrooke
(Season 3 Summary)
(Season 3 Summary)
After almost losing her family, Mirana had started feeling her magic getting somewhat stronger. She was able to grow more plants and herbs at her gardens and began harvesting them to make teas and botanical products. Even if her healing magic wasn’t fully back, she was happy to apply Annabelle’s knowledge for holistic remedies to her new “potions”. (03x01 - The Heart of the Truest Believer)
Overwhelmed with orders for her products, she decided to open up her own shop in town called “Wonder Apothecary & Teas”. Not only was she able to sell her tea blends and spices, but also started making essential oils, botanical bath products like soaps and lotions, and other natural beauty products. She allowed Grace to help out after school.
With Henry gone, Grace realized she was beginning to crush on him and told Mirana about it. She thought it was the most adorable thing and gave her hope that his family will bring him back; that love is the most powerful magic of all.
Then Grace finally asked her about her and her Papa’s friendship. Mirana admitted she was once in love with him when she was very young but drifted apart when she became the White Queen in Wonderland and when he married Priscilla and had Grace, they became friends again and it was best if they stay friends for her. They’ve already been through so much together, Mirana was happy the way things were. She reassured her that she and her father love each other very much and just want to work hard and give her the best childhood ever.
Grace decided it would be better if she and Henry stayed best friends too because that’s what Miri and her Papa were like and seemed really happy already. Wanting to work hard like her and her Papa, she decided to focus on being the next hatter and dress maker.
After much more encouragement, Jefferson decided to follow suit and have his own shop as well. Next door to Mirana’s, he embraced his storybook persona and opened up “The Mad Hatter Shop” where he offered everything from alterations, tailoring, dress making and of course, hat making.
Grace began to help out at each shop and kept herself busy while Henry was away. With both of the businesses picking up, she suggested they also use the mansion as a tea party venue to promote their shops.
Jefferson began having small fashion shows at the mansion while Mirana served samples of her teas and beauty products.
Despite the success of Mirana’s shop, she happily accepted Mally the Dormouse’s offer to help manage the Rabbit Hole as her menu was in such demand, she began to teach the bartenders how to make her specialty drinks. She hired her former White Knight, Aster, to co-manage the shop while she took care of things at the Rabbit Hole.
It wasn’t long before Jefferson began to notice Mirana becoming more of a workaholic. Juggling between working at the Rabbit Hole and her tea shop, Mirana had been spending less time with him and Grace, often missing their unbirthday surprises, dinners, and picnics. Though Jefferson promised he’d be supportive of Mirana embracing all of the lives in her head (Mirana, Alice, and Annabelle) he couldn’t help but feel like she had changed.
Jefferson decided to visit her again at the Rabbit Hole and noticed that more and more people began flocking to her, calling her “Your Majesty”, and flirting with her. He couldn’t help his jealousy creep up again and decided to confront her about it. However, he refused to admit his jealousy and accused her of prioritizing her work over spending time with Grace.
Mirana argued that it wasn’t fair that he kept bringing up Grace and accused him of wanting to control her. It wasn’t her fault people wanted to come to her for more than her magic and her potions. That she was more than Grace’s godmother and the Enchanted Forest plant witch and healer. People were embracing and appreciating everything she was. Everyone but her own best friend.
Leaving the Rabbit Hole upset, Jefferson visited Dr. Hopper again but this time, complaining about Mirana and that she was being a terrible godmother to his daughter. Dr. Hopper asked him if it was really about her being a terrible godmother or was he terrified at the possibility that Mirana could be looking for love outside of the family. Jefferson’s heart broke at the realization. He expressed that if Mirana loved him back, she would have already shown it. He had always known her as being warm, nurturing and affectionate. However, he noticed since embracing her “Annabelle” and “Alice” side of her, she also had to be her own person and if he really loved her, it was time to let her go.
When it was time to tell Mirana that he was proud of her, that their family was still perfect the way it was, he received a call from the Dwarf Bashful at the Sheriff station who was the current active Deputy. Jefferson found out Mirana had been arrested for drunk driving. When he had bailed her out, he confronted her again. This time, he had decided to talk to her about why she was making such poor choices, that none of her different sides would do such things. It was Mirana’s turn to see Dr. Hopper.
Mirana admitted to Dr. Hopper that she was fed up with always being relied on, that her days in Wonderland taught her that she had to stop putting pressure on herself for solving everyone’s problems, including Jefferson’s. For once, she wanted to start thinking for herself, almost like Annabelle would have, that kindness could only go so far before she felt unappreciated and would eventually snap like Alice did in Wonderland.
Dr. Hopper urged her to be honest with Jefferson and tell him how she felt about putting too much pressure on herself and how she burned herself out, trying to give Grace a perfect childhood. Jefferson reassured her that she was appreciated but she admitted she never felt much like it with him trying to control her.
When taken back home, Mirana was under house arrest and decided to keep working on her potions, briefly teaming up with Mr. Gold to cure David and his dreamshade poisoning. When Grace went to her and wanted to have a tea party again, Mirana was cold to her for the first time. As if she were annoyed by her. Jefferson was concerned as it didn’t feel like she was herself at all. Something else was clearly wrong.
Concerned, Jefferson pointed out that she never spoke to Grace like that ever. As if she were behaving unlike herself and he knew all versions of her. Mirana stormed out and went back to work at the Rabbit Hole and there, Leroy brought over Tinker Bell who needed a drink stronger than what Granny’s served. Again, Mirana decided to let Tink stay at her apartment and got drunk together, venting to each other. (03x10 The New Neverland)
Mirana feeling guilty for how she treated Grace, she went back home to apologize to her and Jefferson. He told her that she was changing for the worse, that she used to be so full of love and kindness, it pained him to point out especially that lately she was acting “heartless”. After seeing Jefferson and Grace so upset, Mirana realized it was time they knew the truth.
Mirana confessed to them that she didn’t have her heart. Jefferson was furious as he assumed that Regina had it in her vault. Before he would storm out of the house to break into her vault, Mirana stopped him and admitted it wasn’t Regina that took her heart. She finally revealed it was her that used Dark Magic to rip out her own heart when she left Wonderland and had found out he was married and had a child. She didn’t want to feel her heart breaking and wanted to be there for his family as Grace’s godmother.
Jefferson and Grace were upset with her for using Dark Magic but deep down Jefferson was flattered that she used it for him. It was time they went looking for it as Grace missed her loving godmother and she and Jefferson could not be friends without her heart. It had to be in Storybrooke somewhere since magic had returned. Jefferson joked about the minute she would be reunited with it, she would fall head over heels for him. Mirana joked back that she would have a heart attack before that happened.
Then Peter Pan’s Curse was cast. (03x11 - Going Home)
The Hatter family woke up back in the mansion in their rooms. Jefferson and Mirana both ran to Grace’s room to make sure she was still there. Happy to find her still with her memories of them, they began to wonder what happened with Pan’s curse. Then Grace noticed that her father’s neck scar was gone and assumed the curse made it disappear.
Then Jefferson began to feel a cooling sensation in his chest and felt a sudden chill for a moment. Mirana became quite concerned as she started checking his temperature and making quite a fuss over him. It was as if she was back to being the motherly Mirana he remembered back in the Enchanted Forest. Jefferson was amused and insisted he was fine, thinking it could have been the lingering spell of the town changing again.
The family decided to go about their day as usual and Mirana ran into Mary Margaret at Granny’s, surprised to see her pregnant. That was when she found out quite some time had obviously passed and their memories were erased. To help with her pregnancy, Mirana made special blends of tea just for her such as ginger, peppermint, lemon balm, and raspberry leaf tea.
So much more confusion ensued as Mirana and Jefferson noticed more people camping out in the woods, people that they had never seen in town before. Jefferson had also found out that Rumplestiltskin had died. Somewhat distraught, he was proud he died a hero. He noticed Mirana began to shed some tears over the fact that Rumplestiltskin was somehow a father figure to him, hugging him tighter than ever. (03x12 - New York City Serenade)
Before heading to school, Grace went to Granny’s to pick up some breakfast for Jefferson and Mirana. That was when she found Henry. Before she would say hello to him, Emma pulled her aside, sad to tell her he didn’t remember her, that there was only enough memory potion for her. As Emma apologized, Grace decided to introduce herself and offered to show him around town if he wanted to find fun things to do.
Distraught, Grace confided in her godmother in tears because she had realized Henry had forgotten her, that was when Mirana comforted her, she started to cry as well. It reminded her of the time during the first curse how Jefferson could have felt when she didn’t remember him as Annabelle or Paige having no idea he was her real father. It was rather confusing to her as to how she could suddenly feel so deeply for her. She could feel her heart breaking… and beating for her. Then she had the sudden realization that she could feel she’s been reunited with her heart. However, she could not bring herself to tell Grace or Jefferson just yet.
With the mystery of who cast the last curse, the fear of flying monkeys and people going missing, the Hatter family decided to open up their mansion as a tea party and events venue to ease the people’s anxiety. Mirana was able to use the house as a sanctuary like her time outside of the White Palace in Wonderland, casting a protective spell for people to feel safe while they celebrate or want an escape from reality for a few hours. (03x13 - Witch Hunt)
One day as Mirana visited Jefferson at work at his shop, she noticed a customer flirting with him. With her heart back, her feelings for Jefferson began to slowly return and actually began to feel some jealousy. She forced herself to hold back such feelings and decided to tease him about it. Jefferson looked at her and saw a change in her, but more like seeing the young plant witch he used to flirt with when he was a young portal jumper. He could not help but feel like he was back to his old charming self again.
The pair began to flirt with one another yet again but of course, never took each other seriously. When Grace had discovered that Henry was able to play games on his phone, that was when she decided to encourage her father and godmother to get one of their own so that they may text each other and could be in contact with anyone who wanted to plan a party at the mansion. After such struggles to get used to such technology, it was not long before they got one for Grace and began to text her constantly and learn the texting terms.
One day, Jefferson was at his shop, working on a hat as Mirana was next door, blending some loose leaf teas together. Then suddenly, the Dark Curse had broken, the pair regaining their memories from the missing year.
Both Mirana and Jefferson clearly remembered the day they finally made their True Love for each other official. During the missing year, Jefferson had helped Mirana reunite with her heart and after a flying monkey attacked him, nearly killing him, Mirana kissed him with True Love’s Kiss, healing him and saving his life.
Before Mirana would go over to see him next door, she clumsily spilled a canister of tea and quickly cleaned it up and then found that Jefferson had entered the shop. He teased that he won getting to her first and they kissed, closing up for the day and spending the rest of the afternoon back at the mansion together. Jefferson insisted he move into the master suite with Mirana and she finally decided to give up her apartment.
When Grace came back home from school, she had remembered seeing her father and godmother kissing before the Dark Curse was cast again. Jefferson told the story of how Mirana saved him with True Love’s Kiss and Grace admitted that when she made a wish when Tinker Bell visited them, it was not to find her own True Love but for her Papa and Mirana to finally realize they’re each other’s True Love. She remembered seeing the pixie dust landing on the both of them, that was why it looked like it disappeared.
Mirana suggested that they invite Tinker Bell over for dinner but Jefferson politely declined and said it would be better if they had a girls’ night out instead as he didn’t want to be outnumbered by women in the house. Then Grace decided to ask again if she could finally call Mirana “Mama”. Both Jefferson and Grace looked at her with their adorable pouts and at last, Mirana accepted her role in Grace’s life.
Knowing that Mirana had her heart back, she could no longer contain her tears as Grace cried as well, hugging and kissing Mirana as she had always wanted. Hugging and kissing her back, Mirana never felt more motherly before as she knew she would simply die for Grace.
Jefferson started tearing up as well and joked about having to start making handkerchiefs for all the crying Mirana and Grace would be doing being around each other from now on.
Then Grace received a call from Henry to tell her that his memories returned and apologized that he didn’t remember her. Grace told him how much she missed him and couldn’t wait to have him over again to play video games and have their tea parties again. Then he told her his Grandma was having a baby.
