We coordinate many of our volunteer-led programs through Konstella. If you haven't already, we encourage every Otis family to join Frank Otis Elementary on Konstella. Konstella is where most parent-to-parent communication happens, including for the PTA.
Otis Elementary welcomes and encourages volunteers from our Otis families and the community. You can fill out all of your volunteer paperwork online!
All volunteers need to:
be fingerprinted. This only is done once, not yearly. Find more information below.
fill out the online paperwork each year.
join the PTA in order to be covered by PTA insurance if volunteering for PTA programs or at PTA events.
Volunteers with frequent or prolonged contact (repeat volunteers) also need to:
have TB Risk Assessment completed and submitted with your online paperwork.
Volunteers who will drive for field trips also need to:
provide a copy of Insurance Declarations Page (not insurance card), which must show that you have the minimum coverage specified on the form.
fill out a Chaperone Agreement provided by the teacher for the specific field trip(s) when they happen.
Please keep copies of everything you submit.
Previous volunteer restrictions due to COVID no longer are in place.
Volunteers are strongly encouraged to ask their teachers how they can be helpful and be patient if their teachers need more time before they are ready for docent programs.
Volunteers must always sign in, in the office, and wear volunteer identification.
Volunteers may be asked to show proof of COVID vaccination when they check in at the office.
Live Scan fingerprinting may be completed for a fee* and involves a criminal background check through the FBI and Department of Justice. Please contact the PTA if the Live Scan fee is prohibitive for you.
Live Scan clearance is required only once and is valid for the entire time you volunteer while in the Alameda Unified School District.
This level of clearance can take up to six weeks (though is often faster).
You can find LiveScan locations here.
Bring the LiveScan fingerprinting form with you when you go to get your fingerprints and keep a copy for yourself; you do not need to provide a copy of this form to Otis staff.
Please wait one week from the time you get fingerprinted and then you can email Lknox@alamedaunified.org or mmorris@alamedaunified.org. and ask them to check the school district list to confirm your clearance.
These important requirements are in place to protect all of our children, as well as to protect you, the volunteer. Thank you for complying and for giving your time and talents to Otis!
If you still have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!
