Nirmal Ghosh is currently working as the Director of PPHS Foundation, Bangalore. Earlier he was with VRC, Kerala as the Director of Research (April 2022 to August 2024). He also served in various administrative and research positions including Head of RIH and ARL, Government of Kerala (April 2019 to March 2022) & Scientist-D at ARL, Government of Kerala (October 2017 to March 2019).
His research interests includes: Complex systems, emergent phenomena, emergence, systems engineering of nanomaterials, nanocomposites and dimensionally modulated nanohybrids for applications in electronics, magnetism, optics. His research group is working on development and characterization of polymer nanocomposites and nanohybrids for mechanical, biomedical and environmental remediation applications. Prior to this, Nirmal has heavily invested in indigenous cognition and knowledge systems, epistemicide, and ontological reversal.
Some research projects that he has conceptualized and led are: (i) Technology incubation in practice of health knowledge systems for evidence generation and scientific validation. (ii) Development of reproducible research models in public health. (iii) Nanosensor based detection platform for drug standardization. (iv) Quality control and scientific validation of phytochemicals in drugs. (v) Bio-characterization and scientific validation of minerals used in pharmaceutical applications. (vi) Development of antiviral and anti-inflammatory drug from phytochemical based formulations for COVID-19. (vii) Structure-property relationship and scientific validation of personalized precision medicines and Nanotherapeutics derived from minerals.
Nirmal Ghosh received his B.Sc. Physics and B.Ed. from University of Calicut. He received his M.Sc. Physics from Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu and M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Nanoscience and Technology from Centre for Nanoscience and Technology, Pondicherry University.
