Mo Yi
During World War II, Germany built its submarine base in Lorient. The U-boats caused significant trouble for the Allied forces, leading to massive bombings. However, the base suffered minimal damage while the city was completely flattened, which is why there are hardly any old buildings left in Lorient today.
This had a profound impact on me. During those days, whether standing by the seaside or in the calm city, whenever I saw something flying in the sky, even if it was just a seagull, it reminded me of the stories Alan told, and the sound of airplane engines would echo in my ears...
Not far from the submarine base, on the other side of the strait, there is a fortress that was built during the Spanish occupation of France in the 17th century. It still stands strong, reminding us of the bloodshed and wars of earlier times. Walking on top of it, looking out from the windows used for shooting, the seaside and the sky appear in a beautiful blue hue. It's hard to imagine the smoke and fire that filled this place three hundred years ago, along with the bravery of those who fought...
