Finding a house is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges faced by a student. Before you start searching for a house, you need to sit back, relax, and think: do I want to live alone, or do I want to share a room/ house? Each option has its own pros and cons. Most housing properties in Corvallis have a lease term of 12 months. If you choose to share a room or house, you have the additional responsibility of finding a roommate with whom you think you can live for a year.
Most housing properties open their applications around April. Therefore, it is recommended that you start looking for roommates and contact property managers for applications. Housing managers might require you to provide a photo ID and/or proof of income. Housing managers might also run a credit/background check. Some of the housing options available to you are:
Sierra
The Retreat
Taylor Townhomes
Tyler Townhomes
The Gem
Sterling Management
Pinion Properties
Park Plaza Apartments
Elite Property Management
Duerksen & Associates Inc
At Home Properties Inc
The 707
Parkwest apartments
Santana court apartments
Some of these managements have properties located at different locations in Corvallis. Therefore it is important to look at the distance from your home to the nearest bus stop/college/ nearest grocery store etc. Also, ask if your unit/property has a washer/dryer unit, dishwasher, oven etc. Ask for a floor map so that you have a good idea of what you are signing up for. Managers might reach out to offer a tour of the unit if it is not feasible for you to make it to Corvallis and ask for photographs of the unit.
Once your house is finalized and you are preparing for your long and exhaustive (not kidding, true story) trip to the US, it is advised that you meet your roommates back home (if possible) before coming to Corvallis so that you know each other. This would also be a good time to divide among yourself what items each person is required to bring to get your house up and running.
