General Info on SBA Elections
SBA elections happen every fall and spring term. 1L representatives are elected each fall to serve a one-academic-year term. The SBA executive team, 2L, and 3L representatives are elected each spring for a one-year term. Any law student may run for an executive team position.
To be successful, candidates who run for any position should be particularly focused on public-service or pro-bono work. Candidates should be well-organized, committed, and thoughtful. Candidates must be able to commit to the position description for the role they are seeking. Position descriptions are in the process of being updated. You may check out the under-construction descriptions by using the button below.
Only constituents can vote in their respective elections. For example, only 1L students in the green section can vote for the Green Section 1L Representative. Only rising 2L students can vote for the 2L Representatives. All law students, including LL.M. students, can vote for the SBA President and other Executive Team members.
Election materials include a petition signed by a certain number of constituents, a two-page statement of candidacy, and a 2-minute public speech promoting your candidacy. All materials must be turned in to Dean Jennifer Espinola by the deadline. No exceptions will be made. All elections will be announced at least 2 weeks beforehand.
Elections will be overseen by the Elections Committee. The committee will be made up of Dean Espinola and the 3L representatives from the current SBA Leadership Team. At the discretion of the SBA President, 2L representatives not seeking any new SBA position may also serve on the Elections Committee.
Any questions about SBA elections should be submitted through the Contact Us form on this website. Questions sent through other mediums will not be answered.
