Through various activities, OPTICA is enhancing the science of light by addressing the ongoing need for shared knowledge and innovation. 

OPTICA was founded 100 years ago as The Optical Society of America and has evolved into a global enterprise serving a worldwide constituency. In recognition of its global reach and focus, since 2008 the Society has been known as OSA - The Optical Society.

The Optical Society's (OPTICA) mission is to promote the generation, application and archiving of knowledge in optics and photonics and to disseminate this knowledge worldwide. The purposes of the Society are scientific, technical and educational. OPTICA’s commitment to excellence and long-term learning is the driving force behind all its initiatives. 

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing Kancheepuram specializes in the design and manufacturing-oriented engineering education and research. IIITDM is a public institution established in 2007 by the MHRD, Government of IndiaThe curricula and other academic/research activities adopt an interdisciplinary approach with a focus on experiential learning and information science-based modern tools and techniques. IIITDM Kancheepuram is listed as one of the “Institutes of National Importance” in India. 

Our student chapter is affiliated with the Optical Society of America serving an international community of scientists, engineers, technicians, educators, and business leaders dedicated to advancing the understanding and applications of light. OPTICA sponsors small and large meetings consisting of a technical program and an industrial exhibition appropriate to the subject matter. 

OPTICA IIITDM Kancheepuram shall plan activities all around the year which include conferences, traveling lecture programs, outreach programs, workshops, guest lectures, and many other co-curricular activities such as photography contests, art presentations, and other fun and interesting activities that will be available on the website as well. We are also planning to publish a magazine that would contain interesting and up-to-date information on light technology.
