Its military doctrine emphasizes territorial defense through a combination of professional forces and a large conscript-based reserve. The following provides an overview of key Swedish weapons and equipment relevant to ground combat operations as of 1988.
Individual Weapons & Small Arms:
Klaucke 17 (Pistol 88): A sidearm for officers and vehicle crews, chambered in 9mm.¹
Kpist M/46 (Kulsprutepistol M/46): Swedish-manufactured submachine gun known for its rugged simplicity. Gradually being phased out.²
AG 4 (Automatgevär 4): A licensed variant of the German G3 rifle, chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO. Standard issue until mid-1980s.³
