OPAL members typically manage daily life while coping with a variety of conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Cord Injury, Fibromyalgia, Post-Polio Syndrome, Arthritis, and Stroke. The list of conditions reaches far beyond this basic list.
Our members self-identify as physically or mobility-challenged adults, and we welcome adult caregivers of dependents with physical challenges as well.
We serve residents of the Municipality of West Perth, Ontario and its surrounding communities. This includes Mitchell, Dublin, Brodhagen, Bornholm, Fullarton, and others. We welcome members from other nearby communities in Perth County.
OPAL aims to support each other with practical ways to navigate daily life while challenged
and advocate to reduce barriers.
Together, OPAL members strive to:
Actively support each other, foster mutual understanding, and build confidence to function to the best of our abilities.
Encourage participants to articulate their own particular needs.
Build social activities that encourage involvement, leading to improved self-image and increase confidence.
Raise public awareness of obstacles faced by the physically challenged, through advocacy
