WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: A journey from the West African roots to the American branching of jazz, with Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman helping guide the tour. This workshop will look particularly at use of 12/8 meter both in traditional Ewe music and its later jazz incarnation, ending with a piece that combines both. Participants who play band or string instruments are welcome to bring them. Included will be some warm-up games for younger students.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Come experience traditional musical games from the Brazilian childhood culture, using the pedagogical perspective of the Orff-Schulwerk approach, that will involve playing, singing, dancing, and creating. Discover the basic elements of the language and rhythms of popular culture in Brazil, such as samba, baião, and ciranda, among others. The workshop will also include songs written by Thiago, created and based on the Brazilian childhood culture.
