This book is a great book to introduce movement and chanting (see the chant below - Bananas Unite).
Students can also make 4 beat rhythmic patterns using plastic fruits or pictures of fruit.
Chant -
Teacher :Who likes bananas?
Students: We like bananas
Teacher: B-A-N-A-N-A-S
Students: B-A-N-A-N-A-S
Everyone: Bananas unite!
Peel bananas, peel, peel bananas
Chop bananas, chop chop bananas
Mash bananas, mash mash bananas
Eat bananas, eat, eat bananas
Go, go, go, go, go Bananas!
This is a great story for pitch exploration and finding your head voice. Students howl like a wolf at the moon when a "conductor" (teacher or student) holds up the "moon" - a yellow plate or ice cream container lid. The students can also use a string to create a melody map on the moon and then "howl" the melody.
